Big 12 / Pac 12 / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 1)

If 2 of the 4 corners come to the Big 12, ESPN might pull out of any PAC10 deal.

I’m sure Yormark is like a coach trying to flip a croot right now with the 4 corners lol

I’m not sold on 4 corners. UA yes. Colorado yes. Let’s aim big and get UO and UW.

I’d be happy with Oregon, Washington, and the Arizona’s.

Let Utah can become kings of the Pacific Division of the Mountain West.

Umm… no disrespect but we do not want SDSU.

We do not want SMU either… we have Texas well covered.

We do want some combination of 4 corners!

Yeah, I’d take any combo that would be best of Pac. Just going with 4 corners as they are schools B12 has reported interest in.

That would be good for us… some of the money gets redirected our way. We expand just enough to cover the 9:30pm CT slot but not too much. Because we take only ā€œgoodā€ Pac brands like Arizona and Utah, we stay even or even higher on per school payout.

I can’t imagine that there isn’t talk going on right now with the 4 corner schools.

Who the hell is going to be ok with less money and visibility?

The less visibility is going to eat into their recruiting.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.

NO MORE G5s!!!

The PAC is having to approach G5s because they are DESPERATE.

We needn’t be.

I’m fine with poaching PAC or ACC teams if we ever get the chance.

But we are not so desperate that we need to stoop to the PAC’s level and approach G5s.

I would be careful taking Wash and Oregon…unless they agree to long GOR. We do not want to suffer the hit of them leaving for BIG10… I would rather add members that fit long-term to grow the brand.

1845 to go! Keep it going.

The GOR expires when the TV deal expires and our GOR/TV deal is for 6 years.

Getting UO and UW would let us have any other PAC10 teams we want. I would say take 6 of them which demotes the PAC10 to G5 status. One less major conference competitor and it makes our next contract larger.

Remember, you eat or you get eaten. Yormark understands that very well. That is the strategy now.

If Oregon leaves after 6 years, so what? We will still continue to be a major conference with lots of good teams.

Last month ā€˜Zona Zealots posted an article about this topic.

To cut to the chase the writer said that, if the Media Deal does not meet expectations(at least at level of Big 12 deal) , ā€œI believe they are goneā€.

ā€œGoneā€ means Big 12 gone.

Modern internet record for what?

I listened to the lates Marchand where they talk to the president of Fox. Asked about interest in the Pac-12 he said with as much diplomacy as he could muster that they are not at all interested and he said without saying that the Big 12 content in the agreement is a major reason why.

Not that this is news or a surprise, but I was a little surprised at how unambiguous he was about it. The ESPN guy is much more ā€œWe value all of college football and would love to make as many deals as possible if we can all come to a mutual understandingā€ yada yada.

For some reason ā€˜Zona Zealots believe the Universities of Utah and Arizona are joined at the hip in this situation and will move together IF they move.

A logical guess is The Az Legislature will force ASU to go along.

Colorado? No mention of them in articles I have found.

The university presidents discussed SMU and San Diego State as expansion candidates during a meeting last week and approved commissioner George Kliavkoff taking the next step in the complicated process of adding membership, according to sources with knowledge of the meeting.

Sources emphasized that the approval was informal in nature — the presidents did not vote to add specific schools — but expansion is viewed as highly likely.

This is one of the arguments for expansion that makes some sense. Bring in SMU and SDSU to play on Fridays:

Those additional 13 games provide valuable inventory, especially if media partners are interested in weekly programming for Friday nights. (With 10 members, each team would have to play more often on Fridays.)
