Big 12 / Pac 12 / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 1)

I never have thought the California schools would be interested in joining the Big 12…

Well and we are fine without them. Big 12 looks great with Utah and Arizona. I think that nets the greatest brand value.

Our commish was initially interested in all 4 corners…My guess is, he still is, and thats where i think this is headed. If Utah still waffles, they are easily replaced.

Lol PACtion!

Putting on my OR and WA hats, I align better with the B10 brands than the B12 brands.

  • OR and WA are state flagship universities. B12 has one, KS. B10 has 10, MI, OH St., Penn St., MD, IN, IL, IA, MN, NE, WI.
  • B12 has 1 AAU member, B10 has 13
  • B12 media deal is around $31M/school, B10 media deal is around $70M/school.

OR and WA are acting like the a single adult in love with a married person, waiting for that person to get divorced, so they can get married.

As much as I appreciate the OR and WA brands, I don’t see them as long term for the B12.

Now it starts.

If I’m Wake Forest, etc. I’m never doing this.
The GOR is the stability & you will never be in business w Clemson, etc again after 2036.
(probably before 2036 when the $$$ to leave is easy to make in SEC/B10)

Why give the extra $ when they have zero leverage.

All uneven sharing does is increase the disharmony in the conference. It also makes it harder for the bottom half to move up with less revenue. It is more like giving the Super Bowl champs the first pick in the draft.

So… who wonders if this deal to get OU and UT free and clear of the Big 12 just so happened to be right after it looks like PAC is finally deciding to expand. Interesting timing at the least. I think Yormark might be trying to see if he can swoop in on some PAC teams before anything related to TV or expansion is agreed upon and official there. My guess is no one comes now as the PAC -USC/UCLA+SMU/SDSU is a nice conference still but it would be a huge day if he got at least 2 defectors…would you take Arizona State/Colorado if only those 2 wanted to come now?

Timing of it all definitely makes one wonder. Who knows

I don’t know what to make of that. They didn’t vote to add, so what’s Kliakov doing in SMU.

They didn’t vote because they didn’t have numbers or there wasn’t any interest since members would leave the conference anyway ?

Pac presidents prob wanted kliavkoff in TX while they met with Yorkmark

Gonzaga was just a smokescreen.

Starting to wonder if the SMU visit was meant to be informal but SMU flipped on the sirens.

It’ll look bad if the Pac-12 doesn’t follow though. And if the Big 12 or ACC ever wanted to pull the trigger the message is “now or never”.

The counterargument is that if this wasn’t serious it shouldn’t have involved a public venue.

Well B12 made everyone do presentations and did nothing. lol

Should be interesting weeks ahead.

And they looked bad for it. I thought about this as a possibility while listening to 365 and they were talking about how embarrassing that whole thing was.

In this case there is even more at stake because they are not dealing from a position of strength.

Just a theory, though. Probably not true.

From the athletic ( maybe already posted)

Is backing off on expanding a worse look than if they go through with it? I see media widely questioning the move with Wolken and other media types talking about Pac teams leaving. Kliavkoff is probably better off working on convincing the remaining 10 to accept a reality check deal. Maybe all moot though
