Big 12 / Pac 12 / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 1)

Lol Wilner’s new thing is to keep saying “Do academics not matter anymore?” After the Yormark interview, he kept implying how Yormark was all business and academics are falling by the wayside. Guy is a clown

But props up SDSU, which is an okay school, but isn’t an academic powerhouse at this point.

He is a puppet to the PAC 12 ultimately. My issue with it is this angle is silly and ineffective to salvage the reputation hit PAC 12 is getting.

When the history books are written on this, it will highlight how inept the PAC leadership has been. They had many advantages throughout. They had the nuts on the flop but decided to slow play. Their arrogance will cost them.

Why would the casual PAC fans in Seattle care about Purdue vs Indiana?

Even discussing Rice and Tulane represents at minimum a real commitment to the bit. I honestly wonder if Stanford basically said that they will take SDSU but any other considerations have to be very prestigious.

SMU was already a desperation move.

Rice would be absolutely ROCK bottom.

Last major bowl victory was about SEVENTY years ago.

Last NCAA tourney appearance in basketball was over 50 years ago.

Sad!

We shed a lot of blood and tears and spent a lot of money to no longer be in a conference with SMU, Rice, and Tulane.

Lol we sure did but the Pac wants all that

As I said……SAD!!!

Oregon and Washington are having difficulty securing a 30 million per year within the pac12, why would the BIG bring them into a 70 million conference. They would be dilutive.

No need.

Each school has appealed, applied to be let in and have been denied.

BIG took what they needed in the west coast and are moving on.

They might as well invite Tulsa too! Lock up that Oklahoma market.

UH is playing Cal and Washington on campus in softball and baseball this weekend. Go Coogs!

Rice is actually a good move.

Yes, it’s a growth stock but with a well established university in the heart of a vibrant city.

As you’ve said a million times…this is about BRANDS. Rice is one of the most highly respected academic D1 brands out there

To protect their extremely risky, extremely foolish, western expansion plan of only taking two schools…and two schools next to each other.

Real head scratcher…especially since one of the schools (UCLA) has been hemroghing money for a decade.

I could see Stanford and Cal saying enough, we aren’t minor league sports teams

As I’ve also told you MANY times.

Academics DO NOT drive this.

Football and to a lesser extent men’s basketball BRANDS drive this.

Rice’s brand in both is among the VERY worst.

Having Rice didn’t raise the profile of any conference they’ve been in, even their G5 conferences.

Given that, it’ll LOWER the profile of the PAC if they take them.

As I said….SAD!!!

pac commish when he found out USC and ucla were bolting…

As a Rice MBA, I fully support them in the Pac.

PAC is scraping ROCK bottom if it adds Rice.

I’m quite shocked that Rice is in the conversation.
