Big 12 / SEC / B10 Expansion Thread (Part 2)

That was in direct response to the rumor the PAC is looking to add UNLV, Boise St, SMU & SDSU.

Washington and Oregon are not staying in a conference with those schools…especially if Arizona and Colorado bolt.

They’ll refuse to join the Big 12 purely for academics alone…

But they will add Boise St and UNLV?

so you’re saying they’d rather drop down to a G6 than join the P Big 12?

Add those 4 + 6 departures and it is the Big East/AAC all over again.

Pac should add SDSU and UNLV and call it a day. Still have a SoCal presence, and maybe UNLV can get their crap together

Maybe the PAC is on to something.

If AZ and Colorado leave, then stay at 8. They can divide the media money with fewer people and Oregon and Washington can claim a larger share since half the conference would have no other options but to agree with them. There would only be 7 conference games so 5 easy OOC games and everyone is bowl eligible almost every year. Plus fewer teams to challenge for the CFP slots.

If those two leave, at 8 teams I doubt they will get the same deal. I am pretty sure the current contract has clauses to protect the networks should teams leave. The PAC12 without USC, UCLA, AZ, and CU is not the conference contracted with.

Considering I was half joking, not too concerned. But since they do not have a deal, what “same deal” are you referring?

Also AZ and Colorado are not their top media teams, (possibly below the average value based on their football teams). That would be Washington and Oregon, maybe Utah as third. They would also still retain the Phoenix market with Az St. plus the Bay Area. Don’t think those two would hurt their value as much as some might think.

Facts are irrelevant to people who’s minds are made up.

I don’t know what the future holds, but all I’m saying is those two joining the Big 12 would be an extreme last resort

I don’t care where they go, I didn’t care about them before we joined the B12, I don’t care about them now, and I doubt I will care about them in the future.

“Big 12 has little interest in bringing SDSU aboard, sources indicated to CBS Sports this week. This despite Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark’s stated intent to expand his league to the West Coast.”

IIRC, the AAC had written into its contract that if a certain number of schools or certain schools left, they contract could be renegotiated. I remember Houston, Cincinnati, and Temple being mentioned in that.

No surprise here why take G5 (SDSU, UConn, Memphis etc.) when you can get A5 schools just have to be patient. They’ll realize they’ll be better off in the B12.

Probably true. Irrelevant to the PAC as they have no contract to renegotiate.

B1G and SEC don’t need anyone and more than 16 teams is problematic in scheduling anyway.

Therefore Washington and Oregon are going nowhere.

Therefore PAC will stay intact.

Therefore I still see no realignment for at least 5-6 years and only maybe then.

Movements and expansion/realignments have necessity and cost/benefit factors that are too nuanced for simplification. A TV contract is a big thing but it’s not the only thing, in my humble opinion.

I think that if they choose to go independent rather than B12 then the B10 would probably take them off the list for abject stupidity.

Great read.

I can see why the powers at be wanted to leave us out of the big 12 initially given our football numbers.

Basketball numbers a solid. We still have so much more capacity. It’s amazing.
