Maybe A&M will again recommend that we replace them when they leave a conference…
Sorry, not buying it…First, Notre Dame is NOT a member of the BIG and likely wont ever be. Second, while Aggie not thrilled with whorn entry into SEC, i think they still prefer to stay in SEC…Doubt this talk of negotiating with BIG is true…Aggie FITS with SEC…they are not a fit with BIG…
Swaim
Strategically makes all the sense in the world B1G would like to get into Texas 2nd most populace state in the union, Aggies from all indications not happy with UT in the SEC. Stay tuned. Strangers things have happened…
Yes for the love of god
Please stop posting anything that has to do with Greg Swaim
BIG and Ags seem like way different personalities.
I don’t think they will go big10. Notre Dame isn’t joining and the article acts like ND is in the big10 lol.
The Sec is the best football conf regardless if the big10 makes more money now.
A&M isn’t going to sign off to go play Usc and the travel. Their fans can’t drive all that distance that the big10 covers vs the smaller footprint of the sec. They won’t sign off to go freeze either.
We’d take it asap but A&M would be making a mistake and the sec won’t let you back in if you leave.
Hate the Aggies, but they are a force in terms of revenue and alumni engagement. In fact, their fans are mental (in that way fans can be). Not too far-fetched the Big Ten would have them on their radar.
Disclaimer: I don’t think A&M would move to the Big Ten if invited. The cultural fit in the SEC is perfect for them. And the money.
Ego will make one do a lot of irrational things in the final analysis. But the reasons pointed out in this thread probably would make sense to a rational mind, has anyone ever declared the Aggies are rational actor’s, when it comes to Cow Manure “U”.
If the B1G was really trying to get into the state of Texas, they would have been negotiating with UT earlier. Not hoping that UT would chase A&M out of the SEC.
The networks want to consolidate college football into 3 or 4 large conferences (maybe 2) to get the number or “relevant” teams down to close to NFL number of teams. This makes it easier for them to capture the non-alumni audience (general public) it there are only 32-48 teams. Then they can sell the “big game mentality” to the general public. Right now, there are still too many teams that they can highlight.
The big10 would be a great move for tamu, count on them to blow it
It would NOT be a great move for Aggie or their fans…They are already in the best conference in the country…They arent leaving…
I am pretty sure that UT has an invite to any conference at any time. They could join the damn NFL if they wanted (sarcasm)
It’s UT. It’s the biggest brand in all of college athletics lol
UT probably felt like the SEC made the most sense geographically (which it does), and the SEC is eventually going to eclipse the Big Ten in media revenue anyway. It’s exactly the same reason why A&M will never join the Big Ten despite these “rumors”. The hate that A&M has for UT doesn’t overlap the benefits that A&M has for being in the SEC to begin with.
I’m telling you guys. You all think everyone wants to be in the Big Ten just because they make more money than the SEC… for now… but the dominance of the Big Ten won’t last forever, especially from FOX’s sake.
Probably not that far off on the NFL (at least in their minds)
Don’t see how you justify the SEC making more than the B1G in media revenue. You spent the last year saying how the ACC could not make more than Big 12 because they only had one media provider (ESPN) while the Big 12 had 2 (ESPN and FOX). Now you are reversing it with SEC going to make more even though only one media provider (ESPN) while the B1G has 3 providers (FOX, CBS, NBC). Both conferences have multiple major brands and the B1G has a more national presence.
B1G - Ohio State, Penn St, Michigan, USC, Oregon plus Washington, Wisconsin, Nebraska,
SEC - Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Tenn, Florida, LSU, OU plus A&M
I dunno. Still think this is some bizarro world with texas in the SEC instead of the Big 10.
I predict texas will eventually betray the SEC and switch allegiances to the Big 10 but the major coup would be if they can persuade Notre Dame to join them. That would be something and only then could a serious argument be made for Big 10 > SEC. ![]()
Plus the SEC has introduced a grant of rights. They didn’t have one, but as part of their new media deal all members signed a GOR.
This! As much as many would hate to admit it, this is a fact. Even in down years (of which there have been many!) they are a ratings and revenue behemoth. They’ve been very good at selecting Athletic Directors.
