At this point I don’t even care. College football is already so different from the sport I fell in love with.
I actually like this bc it would be the top 25 teams
Then it’s prob ok for more auto bids for p4
It would still be good teams and allow for a Cinderella team with a chance
Sec and big would get 7 bids and Acc and big 12 5 bids each
Nah. 16 is a good number. 24 to 28 is insane!!!
Why don’t we just do a joint playoff with CFB & NFL
So the top AP 10 teams from CFB play the top 10 division leaders from the NFL
Call it a day
Or…just consolidate the P2 to 48 schools and the whole season will feel like a playoff with nothing but big time matchups!
lol those at large teams would have 5+ losses.
Nah, 16 teams is a bad number if the Big12 only gets 2 spots. With this proposal, apparently the Big 12 would get 5 of 28 spots or ~18% and the BIG & SEC would get 7 of 28 spots or ~25%
So assuming $1.3 billion/year in playoff media broadcast rights fees, under this proposal P4 conference teams (on average) could receive the following college FB playoff revenues:
SEC: $1.3 billion x 25% = $325 million / 16 teams = ~$20.3 million/team
BIG: $1.3 billion x 25% = $325 million / 18 teams = ~$18.0 million/team
Big12: $1.3 billion x ~18% = ~$232 million / 16 teams = ~$14.5 million/team
ACC: $1.3 billion x ~18% = ~$232 million / 18 teams = ~$12.9 million/team
[NOTE: The $1.3 billion broadcast rights number is based on ESPN’s current deal, and the per conference amounts would likely be adjusted by the # of wins/losses in each round.]
They’re all-in on killing the golden goose, huh?
Fine…The more teams, the more Big 12 teams will get a bid. This clearly shows that P2 talk is nonsense, because BIG proposal takes care of all P4 conference teams and ND. I like it. We get 5 teams in. If last year, that means 11-1 Arizona St, 10-2 BYU, 10-2 Iowa State, 9-3 Colorado, and Kansas State. Thats great for us, we should be supporting that proposal big time.
Still say no if they get more automatic bids than the big12
all jokes aside i would take this deal
5 spots for the Big 12 means 5 opportunities for UH
You get a bid… and you get a bid…
Then the season will end just in time for March Madness.
I favor a 24 or 28 team college football playoff. More teams competing for the college football championship is good for college football. Conference champions should get a guaranteed spot. I am philosophically opposed to guaranteeing any other spots. Take the best remaining teams, with well publicized criteria.
Bringing this closer to home, it is clear that strength of schedule is an important metric in determining who makes the playoffs, no matter how many teams are in. For 2025 and 2026, UH’s OOC schedule is underwhelming. For 2027 and 2028, UH plays LSU and Oklahoma respectively. 2029 has not been announced and in 2030 and 2031, UH plays a home-and-home series with Boise St. Boise St. is competitive, but not in a P4. I hope the plan is to play a P4 in 2030-31, in addition to Boise St.
I am sure AD Nunez is approaching future scheduling with an eye on competitive P4 matches that will enhance UH’s position to compete for a college football playoff spot.
I don’t hate the idea, it gets rid of the conference championship games and once the conferences stopped having actual divisions and just had the top 2 teams play each other they were really just cash grabs.
Football isn’t like basketball, or baseball. There may be 4 teams with a legit chance to win a championship. Only way a Cinderella team has a chance is a smaller playoff bracket. I dont like that either though. I guess what im saying is…idk.
There are only a handful of teams with a realistic chance to win it in Basketball, too. A 1-seed wins the MBB National Championship about 2/3 of the time, and in the years where a 1-seed doesn’t win it, about half the time it’s a 2- or 3-seed.
Now im more sad than i was when i wrote my post. Thanks
