Big ten proposes 24 to 28 team playoff field

What about a contraction to 10 teams, conference champs only? I can hold my breath until I get what I want too.

Anyone who thinks the P4s will let 10 conference champs in the CFP, are very gullible, nieve and not dealing with reality. It’s a waste of thought to think such a thing would happen.

I hate to think of all the important things being wasted in service of worshipping the money gods that we’ve been seeing

…is simply beyond delusional! UT will give it’s share of the PUF to UH before this would ever happen…and we will have colonized Mars.

Well, I mean, it isn’t kosher to talk about players as inmates running the asylum, but what about university presidents and tv executives when they make decisions about how to run college sports?

Honestly a lot of university presidents are disconnected but unfortunately forced to be involved due to them having to since it’s still school lol

But at the end of the day no one had to accept the TV money - correct? We let them in the room and money changes everything as usual

Who decided to overpay coaches?
Who is not enforcing the purpose of NIL?

If dang near 70 guys are getting paid now where are their names, images and likeness being used at?

Who is kidding whom?
espn has the cfp contract so you can be sure espn will pull the strings. This is where Yormark and petitti have to get “closer”
At the end of the day what you and I think has no bearings into what the future cfp will look like.
FBS DIV I is well defined with conferences. The key issue is that on purpose (cowards) the ncaa does not sanction the cfp. Therefore espn is force feeding us whatever format THEY want.
Until the ncaa is replaced by a true and effective FBS DIV I leadership nothing will happen in favor to the BIG12 or acc.
These teams are part of sanctioned FBS DIV I conferences but two conferences are acting like the exact opposite. It is time that they are put back in their place. These teams represent public schools with a few exceptions. Therefore congress has to replace the ncaa with a true National representation. The big10 and sec will want to secede? Remember they are public schools. They do so? Stop Federal funding. Why?
Because at the core of these athletes they are first and foremost STUDENT ATHLETES.

Yeah there’s gotta be some kind of title ix issue with schools handling nil funds and this clearly not equally benefiting all student athletes, right? Private individual can do one thing, but when the school is coordinating, doesn’t that expose them to title ix requirements?

The CFP is going to expand…The only question is how much. 16 for sure…maybe more, depending on what Big 12, SEC and ACC want to do. Of course, the BIG wants to expand it. We’ll see what they finally agree on…

It is also conceivable that the CFP stay at 12, if the B1G and SEC Commissioners can’t agree on how teams are determined in the 16 team format. Do conference champions get an automatic bid, do you eliminate automatic bids and use the polls, etc. We should know something January 23, 2026, which is the deadline to decide the expansion format.

If the Commissioners would check their egos at the door and put college football first, we may see some progress.

What they need is a more unbiased ranking system for the playoffs. Maybe they have a computer that ranks teams based on their average ranking between the coaches, AP, and committee polls. Then that computer ranking average determines your seeding. Also wouldn’t mind expanding the playoff to 14 to match the NFL.

Every methodology has pros and cons. ESPN’s College Football Power Index (PI) seems like a fair methodology, until you find out that UH wouldn’t make the CFP if they expanded to 26. Under ESPN’s PI, UH ranks #50, sandwiched in-between Old Dominion and Kansas,

Or you could win more games than your conference mates and then find out how you stack up against other conferences. It’s good enough for pro sports all over the world. We used to make fun of the Belarusian gymnastics judge for the kind of nonsense we see today in charge college football.

A 24-team field would require the conferences to eliminate their championship games, and that’s something that has been highly valuable for the SEC. Some in the room also have concerns about how a 24-team field would impact the regular season, sources said.

The article is misleading…again and on purpose. What it really means is that the sec wants to be in control and not letting money going somewhere else. This has nothing to do with sports merits. The upcoming March Madness selection is another example of it.

If you decide to go above 16, it should jump to 32. No byes - it has already proven to undermine seeding

Edited to add: Auto bid to every conference champion

I am all for it and…it makes the regular season meaningful. More importantly it involves the entire country. The entire country involved? What a concept! That is that same concept that made what college football is all about.

It shouldn’t be two conferences making the decision for 10 conferences. It sounds like 8 of the 10 are saying “Thank you sir may I have another!” to the SEC, Big Ten, and ESPN.

I read a story on the meeting between conference commish’s that says that Yormark of the Big 12 is who is holding up the agreement on 16 or 24. Sounds like BY is going to make sure we get 3 or 4 spots, not just 2.

Yormark and the big10 commissioner want 24 teams. The one holding it up is the sec commissioner.
The sooner we get a new media deal with hopefully TNT the better we will be off.
Cignetti last night proved to every program, every program that if you have a program “plan” you can indeed win the cfp.
What Cignetti did he could have done it in the BIG12.
Great coaching.
Great evaluation.
Great building a roster.
This is what coaching is all about.
