The ACC, Big 12 and SEC continue to back a 16-team “5+11” format that guarantees automatic bids to the five highest-ranked conference champions. The roadblock remains the Big Ten and SEC’s controlling interest in CFP decision-making. If the two largest conferences don’t align, the playoff stays at 12 teams
Bowl games used to be prestigious. Today, some schools would rather work towards next season and pay a fine to their conference (if affiliated with one) than waste time getting ready for a bowl game.
When a 5-7 team is needed to fill a bowl game, there are too many bowl games. I also don’t like playing bowl games in a pro teams indoor practice facility or three bowls in one stadium in Orlando.
I would say 7 wins should be the minimum. That way, if you lose the bowl game, you still finish the season with a winning record.
No, but the one time the SBC team pulls the upset will make the other 99 times worth it.

Not completely. Money dictates the cfp. Who is against the expansion?
The sec is…all other conferences want it expanded to 24 teams. The sec wants to control the money. This has nothing to do with sports.
Ideally if this was about sports merits I propose the following:
10 FBS DIV I Champions = 10 cfp entries.
1 independent if ranked in the top 16. If no independent is ranked in the top 16? Another at large will be given to one of the power four conferences.
Five at large with:
2 big10*, 1 sec, 1 BIG12, 1 acc
The * is for the conference cfp champion. Since Indiana won the big10 gets two at large.
At the core of the cfp’s problem is the FBS DIV I. No one wants to talk about it but by definition these teams won their conference. JMU got blown away? So what? A power league team/league does not agree with this? Go ahead and move to one of these 10 leagues or become an independent.
At least it gives six FBS DIV I champion a chance to slay Goliath. Everybody pulls for the underdog.
The nfl has a representative for each of its division plus some “at large”.
Yes, the nfl is based on parity due to the draft’s order. With NIL every FBS DIV I has now the opportunity to compete. But we all know, at the end of the day Coaching will be the ultimate decisive factor of who wins the cfp.
I don’t disgaree. But perception is reality (or at least used to justify a false reality) and Tech dropped the ball big time. When it’s our turn, we will be ready.
24 and 28 are too many. 12 or 16 are acceptable. 12 has 4 byes for the top seeds and 16 has no byes. 16 adds 2 more games to round 1 without increasing the number of rounds.
