Too many good players. I expect some surprises. I hope it all meshes together well.
Last season Mag showed that Kevin Young will let someone replace a starter (Kannon Catchings - one of BYUs highest rated recruits ever).
Tyler Myrus and Nate Pickins are also looking good. If they don’t break through this year I’d be surprised if they don’t break out the season after this.
I haven’t seen Kennard Davis in more than last year stuff but he’s supposed to be a lock down defender and a starter. They are probably thinking he’ll be in the Mag role. I’m hoping he makes some released footage soon lol.
Keba Keita is working on a back to the basket game. That would help replace Fouse, but there is an opening for a scoring big.
Robert Write III, Richie Saunders, and AJ Debantsa are hoping to be all Americans. All probably need 30+ minutes.
There are only 200 minutes a game. It’s going to be interesting to see what BYU does.
True. But i saw him closely when he transfer to Utah Prep midseason and competition got better he played a bit timid, not as strong & got in foul trouble to the point he wasn’t playing the same amount of minutes when he was in his previous school. Big men tend to have a bigger curve to learn/adjust to college ball than guards. They’ll still be good with Keita manning the middle.
@Coog1992 Just brought this to my attention and I’ve been looking on the web to see what’s going on.
Jizzle James has either quit the Cincinnati basketball team, or has been kicked off the team based on a bunch of rumors. Nothing has been verified yet.
Jizzle has been posting a bunch of weird subliminals online on his Instagram, but the biggest and most damning evidence is a screenshot of a text he put with his agent in which the agent said he reached out to a bunch of other teams and they told him its too late to transfer, and the agent telling him that he has to play for Cincinnati and Jizzle putting the response he’ll play in the G League if he has to.
Basketball Context:
For those that don’t follow other Big 12 Teams, Jizzle was expected to be the star player for Cincinnati. A PG for them
With Cincinnati, weirdly enough, is the one team that can survive losing a star player. The difference between a star player and the next player was never big. There’s a chance they actually got better, as #2, Cincinnati was projected to start multiple point guards who weren’t great shooters. So losing Jizzle, one of them, might actually make them a better team because it would give them more room to put a shooter in the starting lineup/heavy minutes. #3 they had 4 touted pg on roster
Cincinnati Roster had 7 players who were starters on High Major-ish team, 2 top 50 recruits, and a redshirt 4star from last year @justinhub2003
It’s hard to overcome dysfunction in year 5 when you haven’t made the tournament yet. 14-24 in Big 12 play since entering the conference. Was 18-18 in AAC over the 2 seasons there. Wes Miller was really good at UNC Greensboro, but gotta think his time in Cincy is coming to an end if they’re similar this season as to what they have been. 6 straight years without a tournament appearance for Cincy, after making the tournament 9 straight years under Cronin.
As a cohesive team, I 100% think so. Even before this news, if you saw any of my posts with Justin two months ago, I was preaching about how Cincy has to find a way to not play Dayday and JIzzle together because both of them on the court together is a bad dynamic for winning basketball.
But both of them were too well established that it was almost a lock that both would start. 25+mins each.
Dayday and JIzzle are both small Pgs… Jizzle shoots 28% from 3 at high volume , Dayday shoots decent percentage but at low volume (only 40 made for the season last year- only shoots when open)… we’ve seen heavy dayday& jizzle minutes together last year… Bottom three worst offenses in all of the high major. It’s insane to be kept under 52 points even once in a season. They did it five times in just conference play.
The backups are all drastically better shooters. For example, Kerr did 80 3s his last full healthy season.
Adding a second shooter That’s playing significant man, This allows them to do a lot more with their lineups and rotations: for example Arguably the best perimeter defender in the league is Sincere Harris (All-big 12 Defense last year at WVU) but With Jizzle and Day Day starting you honestly can’t play Harris because Harris has No offense whatsoever. he shot like 11% from 3, Putting him out on the floor with Jizzle and Day Day and him which is a nonsensical lineup . You put Kerr (or Abaev) & Day Day with sincere that makes a lot more sense-- And now you’re allowed to put one of the best defenders in the league on the court a lot more
Just for clarity, I’m not saying jizzle is a bad player. I think if we had lost Milos and we got jizzle, I think we would have been a great team. I’m talking about team cohesion. cincy has too many non-shooting players that were locked in for big minutes. And I think this losing jizzle allows them to put more shooters on the court. for a team that needed a drastic revamp in the offense.
