Big12 Basketball 2025-26

They are lacking toughness and good guard play this year.

Definitely seem like pretenders so far…

Tech hung on to wind by 4 over a Quad 4 team. What I’d be most alarmed about if I was a Tech fan would be that they played only 7 people in a game at home against a very average team. That to me screams depth issues.

It was such an "impressive’ win that they dropped 6 spots in KenPom

I was pretty critical about Tech, after the Purdue game.

Theyve played 2 games since Purdue. Lejuan Watts, has played better, coming off the bench. 31 pts over his last 2 games

Tyree Bryan, their starter, has been bad these last 2 games. Combined 3 pts (vs New Orleans & Wyoming)

Looks like a portal miss for Tech

I’ve talked about how I really like Coach Otzelberger at Iowa State

But, Grant Mccasland is outstanding. His attention to detail on things. I dont know how talented a team he has this yr. But i know he’ll maximize that talent

Behind Sampson, Mccasland & Otz. My favorite coaches in the Big12

I did that one a few months ago in between going to Angels and Dodgers games. Made it up and back before the morning clouds lifted and barely broke a sweat.

I think they have some injury things going on, as well - 3 rotation guys were out.

I really like him too. He’s a very good coach. (Very different opinion from McGuire for me, personally.) Quality presser there. Really took his team to task and gave credit to Wyoming for exposing that. Not making excuses or shying away from the obvious concerns. 10/10.

SIDE NOTE: Also like Tommy Lloyd. Wasn’t sure about him coming into the conference. Often times guys with that kind of “lesser known” upstart HC profile who maneuver themselves into a 1st time opportunity like that…especially longtime assistants who have spent so long getting a lot of the credit and none of the blame… can be kind of less concerned with true character and substance, as well as relating properly to their peers, media, and fans (except when it suits them).

Along those lines maybe also thin-skinned and combative w/ a high opinion of themselves and a lack of perspective. Thus, less likable.
(* cough, tang is THE prime example, but not the only *)

I’ve actually found him to be quite thoughtful, down-to-earth, and gracious IME. I also think he’s very accurate in how he sees the game and evaluates things. I bet he’s a solid dude and approachable straight shooter to play for. I think he knows ball and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt there. Just the vibe so far. So count me as a fan.

I will take the bait on the thread hijack.

Its great to see a Dresser squad that wad able to compete at full strength (ISU has battled a lot of injuries the last several years). The fans were rewarded with lots of action, aggression, and ISU showcased very good conditioning. That was a very satisfying win.

I only have 2 “complaints”. The minor one is ISU making several bad decisions in scrambles that either prevented TDs or resulted in giving them up. A couple of times guys had the opportunity to hook the 2nd leg and oddly didnt even try. The major gripe is Paniro Johnson. He has the ability to win NCAAs and has showcased it in a few matches, but most of the time he gives substandard efforts and is content to wrestle every opponent in SV matches. That kind of effort is pathetic, and contradicts the effort and attitude put forth by the rest of the team. Jacob needs to be in that spot going forward. He may not have the ceiling, but you wont see substandard efforts like that. Ever.

I wouldn’t write off Tarleton in this one - they dominated Baylor on the boards a couple of weeks ago. They just turned the ball over too much.

UCF and Colorado being that high is surprising though ofc Cinci turns into a landmine a year we get them twice :sob:

Ok last one, I promise!

Don’t need to know anything about rasslin’ to appreciate this one! @Kyle_Be_Coogin @BYUcougarfan

UCF has quietly gotten off to a good start. 7-1 with wins over Pitt + A&M. Lone loss to a Vandy team that the computers love. Colorado managed to avoid upset early and collected some decent wins. I think they’ll still finish in the bottom of the league but at least they won’t drag the league’s metrics down with them.

Not sure this year. We’ve lost 11 regular-season conference games the last 5 years.

Would not be surprised if we lost 5 or 6 this year alone.

Somebody needs to learn about audio levels when they dub a video…

The little bit of jiu-jitsu that I know makes me cringe when rasslers give up their back to not be pinned…

That ends in a blood choke every.damn.time…
