You’re proving my point! He ONLY got his shot bc the guy in front of him went down.
Donavan was DANA’s big NIL acquisition
And CWF renewed his contract
There was too much $ invested, we weren’t going to just cut our losses. We had to try to get something in return. Unfortunately, since the injury, he just wasn’t the same.
The man only had 2 weeks to recruit. What the hell else was he supposed to do? Go into the season with a starting QB who was rehabbing a broken leg at the time? Or let me guess, start a guy like Ui Ale, who hasn’t been able to hold down the QB2 spot for 2 coaching staffs now? Or better yet, start a RS freshman like Caleb McMickle who hasn’t thrown a collegiate pass yet? Come on dude, use your brain.
I don’t think Willie throws Carlisle out there as a true freshman.
Smith wanted to transfer when Holgorsen left. Smith’s dad, an NFL coach, knows and likes Fritz, and told him to stay. They talked about this during one of the games he started this year on TV.
It is simple. If CWF wants him that is good enough for me. I could care less if someone on coogfans does not think he can run. CWF again if he wants him knows what fits his system better than any of us.
The basic questions are:
Does Weigman want to play for us?
Can we afford Weigman?
Writing that every other QB than Carlsile will transfer is wrong. QB competition happens at all level. If a QB feels he can be the “guy” he will stay. Competition only brings the best outcome.
You’re neglecting the fact that he was in the 1st year of a Collin Klein system that his skillset wasnt suited for. The kid has talent, he just needs to be in a system that caters to his strengths. Slade Nagle’s offense is a perfect match for Weigman
Facts. His dad was wrong tho lol. He should’ve listened to his gut. If he wound up somewhere like UTEP, Rice, UTSA, or UNT, I think he could’ve had decent success
Smith and Holgorsen were talking like friends after the game when he was the TT QB and beat us in overtime. I remember later in the year that TT started using a different QB. I had a gut feeling Smith would be on our roster after that.
At UH, I’d say the WVU Hail Mary has been Smith’s shining moment and best game.
Fritz’s will take a 5 star SEC QB without blinking. Hope this helps.
Bobcat rocketing up the Coogfans power rankings.
Zeon had good years also and came and looked average
Was probably hurt the entire season and that contributed and he played through the injury.
But if you want a 5 star qb to throw like one you need a 5 star O line. And WE DONT HAVE ONE.
Zeon had a solid freshman year for half a season, wouldn’t exactly compare that to Weigman
You know how on this board, people talked about how good D’Eric King was after he transferred to Miami, how we wish we could have kept him?
I checked the Louisiana board after a few of our wins and they did talk about Chriss. Main thing they said was they are glad he’s at another school and wished him well, but didn’t seem to miss him like we did King.
We’ve been quietly building depth on the o-line for 3 years now.
Ray’Quan Bell for example, was playing in the Under Armour All American game around this time last year. I think that by redshirting him this year, it’ll pay big dividends next season.
Ronnell McLain is another guy that will benefit immensely from redshirting this season.
We also just signed the highest rated offensive linemen recruit in our history in 4⭐️ Demetris Dean. He chose UH over Texas A&M, TTU, Baylor, & Missouri. I expect him to be a day 1 starter.
Cayden Bowie has spent the past 2 seasons getting stronger & learning the system.
RJ Lee is a MOUNTAIN of a human being at 6’8, 335lbs & he chose UH over TTU & PITT.
Derek Joiner might actually be more ready to play than all of those guys as he’s been listed on the 2-deep nearly all year as a true freshman.
And with Slade Nagle calling the plays, I think our offensive line will look even better than they actually are. There’s a reason why Willie just said he was so excited for the 2025 season.
Keep in mind that was against Sunbelt competition. AND Zeon wasn’t even the starter. He only got a chance to play at Louisiana last year bc their starter Ben Woolridge got hurt.
He has not missed on any of his posts
If Cayden Bowie would have not got hurt, I believe he might have been starting.
