He started his career before transferring out in search of more playing time. I believe his dad played here and now as a grad transfer he is coming back to UH

Does anybody know how he did at Akron?
I think he transferred out of UH because he and the then OL coach did not get along and Max just didn’t like the guy. Back when he was still here before, I had a conversation with a person very close to Max who said that.
I am very glad to have him back!

Well there ya go. I dont remember the details closely, just that he left and went to Akron
Here are some of his highlights with Akron & during his time here at UH.
He has some pretty good highlights assisting with run-blocking for Tune against USF. Not sure if it was during the Applewhite era or not, but I definitely see some value in him coming back.

At Akron, he blocked well against Tennessee and Michigan State, I think he will be a very good addition.

Nice. He apparently entered the portal April 3 and committed today, April 7. Wonder if the staff reached out after Johnson transferred. In his transfer announcement he mentions that he started 7 games at OG and got injured in the 8th.
He is one of the final four players from the Applewhite Era.
Did he ever end up developing as projected, though?
He never seemed to develop well enough to get playing time here, hence the transfer to Temple.
And when we played Temple, he didn’t strike me as a key player with stand out skills…I don’t think he was even a starter for them, but I didn’t follow them enough to know.
I do too. Always great to have an experienced lineman joining us. This is how we build depth.
For most teams, it’s a transfer portal…

I think his dad was Joey Banes. Was on OL back in the Pardee era.
