Bowl game prediction: good, bad, ugly

Bowl game allows xtra practice for team especially the younger players

Yes, that is what people say, but is there measurable evidence that such practices have longer-term consequences?

  1. If we had beat SMU, we would have been 9-2 and not needing to win at Memphis.
  2. Independence Bowl is like the Liberty, not a huge bowl, but an old one with a lot of tradition and history. I would go to it.
  3. Playing a MAC team in a soccer stadium in a Dallas suburd, not so much (but I would still go…).

I would love to see Houston play Georgia Tech in the Independence bowl. Saw Georgia Tech play Duke a few weeks back in Atlanta, and Tech’s passing game is atrocious. I think the Coogs would take care of business against the “Ramblin’ Wreck”.

Dont care if its the Preparation H Bowl vs Humboldt St, you take it. The players, especially SRs, deserve a little fun in the last game ever for most…and get some more reps in as bonus

The absence D’Eriq King along with all the other injuries has lowered my expectations.

But

I would love to beat Memphis to win AAC West but realize this is unlikely
I would really to love to beat UCF to win AAC championship but this is highly unlikely
If we do beat UCF we might get a NY6 bid but this depends on polls and how MWC turns out between Boise, Uatah State and their CCG game vs Fresno. I expect Houston would be ranked higher if beating #8 UCF but no way to know. we would then be playing a top #10 ranked team with our depleted roster.

Winning all 3 of these games (Memphis, UCF, NY6) )is highly unlikely given we are playing with such a thin roster.

I’ll take wins over Memphis and UCF any day but hesitant about being involved in ny6 games without the horses to win it. We cannot afford a loss when on the big stage. Now, if Tune does great this week then I may feel differently but right now I’m thinking it may be a good year to participate in the poulon weed eater bowl vs nothing state.

Just Win!

The bowls are stupid now unless you’re playing in a major one in a good city on a day when it’s easy for people to travel. I’m not saying skip it but this idea that it’s some reward for players and “we’re just doing it for the kids” is just garbage. Any kid with a decent NFL draft slot projected would be dumb to play.

It’s even stupider the games count against a redshirt.

Shreveport is a fun city. They have some great casinos and good restaurants. They do put out the red carpet for the teams. This is a big event for a small city.

in a weird way i dont even want a ny6 this year…i know we still have like a 5% chance of getting it

but if it happened we would probably have the lowest attended ny6/bcs bowl game in the last 18 years of the system,

i kinda dont want that shame right now

Well, I do. Until we are officially pronounced out of the running…I will ALWAYS hope for the best!

I agree with Bultokid; the seniors deserve the fun in their last game. Also, having the additional allowable practices before the bowl game is great for all the players and coaches returning next year.

You know anything that used to be the Weedeater Bowl has to be good!!!

Let’s assume UH wins out and beats an undefeated UFC. I think even if Boise were to win the MWC, we could still get ranked ahead of them. If Fresno State wins the MWC, I think we would probably get ranked higher than them. So I think there is a decent chance if we win out, we get the G5 spot.

Question is, how far would a 1-loss UCF drop. As long as they don’t drop below all of the 3-loss P5 teams…they could still qualify for one of the at-large bids.

If we beat UCF, then the CFP will treat UCF like a 1 loss G5 team.

They’re going to say: “UH defeated UCF with all their injuries? Well maybe UCF isn’t as good as they think… Let’s knock em back to the 20’s.”

While it certainly wouldn’t have the excitement of 2015, I really don’t think we’d crap out attendance wise for that tier of a bowl game.

Back in the day it was the Independence Bowl.

Boise State or Utah State probably get in if they win out and UCF loses. Both are currently ranked and play each other this weekend so one will move up in the eyes of the committee.

We’re probably in Fresno State’s range right now, however, their SOS has been considerably better all year. Question will be (if it happens) if they decide a win over an undefeated UCF is better than a win over BSU/USU and a tougher schedule. I’d love to say they will, but our schedule has been weak this year. We’ve played 2 teams with winning records so far this season: USF and Temple.

The holidays would suck without bowl games. Some are better than others but going to one is better than not. I look forward to supporting our Coogs in whichever bowl we land in and hopefully sending the seniors out as bowl champions.
