Did not see that coming
Rumors are that his political ambitions are taking over. Replacing the Auburn football coach with the Auburn basketball coach. I mean it’s easier money
That or health? Why would he retire with his team being as good as they are? Huge loss for Auburn.
Could be that too, for sure. That’s just the initial rumor mill stuff from the interwebs.
Tuberville 2.0
Also total ho move to retire at a point where there’s no choice but to give it to his son and current staff.
wow, feel like that’s pretty big news
Something must have happened…he’s easily one of the best coaches in college basketball right now.
You can tell he is as passionate about his squad as CKS is about ours.
Hope he’s not having serious health issues
Maybe that’s why he waited this late?
Nepotism at it’s finest strikes again.
Caleb Holt is not going to end up playing in the state of Alabama after all imo.
That’s what I’m thinking.
I mean Kellens gonna take over for Kelvin as well. Are you going to call that nepotism?
The difference is UH clearly wants that and set it up well in advance. I’m not so sure in this case.
It’s odd for Pearl to retire in late September. My gut says that’s strategic so they don’t have a choice but hire an assistant (ie his son).
He’s been an assistant at Auburn since 2017. He’s been the associate head coach since 2023. Maybe Pearl timed this to get his son promoted. Maybe he didn’t. Who knows. What we do know for sure, is that Kelvin leveraged his contract negotiations a few years ago to secure the coach in waiting position for Kellen. It wasn’t something the university independently pushed for. So if we’re gonna call this nepotism then you have to call that out as well.
I don’t think they’re the same but reasonable minds can disagree.
I mean they’re similar in the biggest of scopes and definitions.
Situationally they are vastly different circumstances
Tbc I don’t have an issue with Kellen taking over but your dad leveraging his position to secure a promotion for you, pretty clearly falls under the definition of nepotism.
I, also, plan to retire
