The B1G basically requires you to be an AAU member. While we are trying to head down that path, it could be decades before we are even up for review to join as just meeting the criteria doesn’t guarantee you anything. B1G will make exceptions for certain schools due to circumstances: Nebraska lost AAU status, which was known, and they were still admitted due to their large fanbase and history. The idea is that the B1G could make a similar exception for Oklahoma, although, Oklahoma is nowhere near being an AAU school and is more in our range.
The PAC12 values academics, but prioritizes research. They are looking for large research Universities in non-Agricultural fields that they can share ideas and projects with. Those added instantly see an influx of cash into their R&D budgets to being them up to the top 50 in the nation. UH has been trending in this direction for awhile now.
