This fanbase complains about the heat and sun religiously and understandably so, since they have grown up with air conditioned, retractable roofed stadiums, but yes, the MOST important thing would be what opposing fans say when they watch on tv……and not the empty seats……

The Roman Colosseum actually had something like this; a retractable roof/shade system called a velarium.

| When you go through concept designs, renderings there is a good chance some types of roof, canopy was designed. Anytime you add weight or potential weight to an existing structure it is obviously a huge puzzle to resolve. Houston is in a hurricane and wind storm area. What is valid in Galveston, Houston or Dallas is again obviously different. The wind load/capable is well known by the local engineers and canopy manufacturers. I know of at least three that would love to have a chance at this. Will it work at the right price with the needed safety? Anything is possible. I can’t wait to see what’s next. |

Looks cool but that eliminates ever adding anymore seats. I know, I know… we can barely sell out now as it is. But still…
So, we eliminate one of the primary reasons for people not to come to games; now they want to come to games; sorry, we have no seats for you to bother to come to games.
This would also eliminate the light poles so there would be no more night games. So this is not feasible and it is also most likely cost prohibitive.
And many of the supporters at schools like UT-Austin, ATM, LSU & others probably get a big laugh out of our (some might say candy arse) fans who constantly complain about the sun and the heat at TDECU…as an excuse not to show up 6 days a year!
Now if someone wants to contribute $100+ million for a major TDECU stadium renovation, then by all means go meet with our Chancellor Renu Khator. Until then I would suggest that we all just show up, wear red & say Go Coogs!

I’ll just say it. UH needs a new 50-60,000 seat domed stadium on campus, with as many high revenue suites as it will hold.
Unfortunately, not likely in my lifetime.
