I know its not a priority and no money to address temperature but it still affects current problems with early season crowds. Yesterday I saw a filled home lower side and pretty good away side lower and second level. That third level away side is an issue. Also home corners.
Money talks so maybe just maybe either construct or move the press box. Convert current press box into suites and make new press box on top of stadium away or home side with some extended shade for crowds below. The suites would make money and get some comfort for fans.
This is the dreamer in me talking but still that third level has no shade, no rr and a hike to get to your seats.

It would require a major capital investment and major fund raising so i do not see anyone currently championing this cause, it is a real issue in the end, the fan experience needs to raise significantly since we are in the era of pro sports in college.
Yes, an expensive project. So my thinking is more suites for revenue and other money making ventures that lump in shade relief and other amenities. In the end UH does something about it or doesn’t. Also, upper decks have amazing views of downtown, how about large wedding venues up there lol

This would be the #1 upgrade
UH is broke & they’re likely not getting a new stadium in my lifetime (& I’m 28 so that’s saying something)
With that being said, if they ever did… they should really work on making it a 50,000 seat indoor stadium with a huge emphasis on suites.
Let’s be real we don’t need a 60,000-80,000 seat open aired stadium. We can’t fill It lol
and if more seats are really needed… NRG is down the street and it gets filled with more UH fans than our own home stadium…
If we make it an indoor stadium, emphasis on suites for corporations and people to rent, I see us making a killing on not just UH games, but renting it out to other events as well.
It’s Houston, people need AC here unless it’s a night game.
Problem is, everytime something is being built like dynamo stadium they cheap out and lose out on future revenue to save cash now. Outdoor stadiums will not work in a city that is literally the AC capitol of the world

I agree. But with hindsight, having the dome as UH’s home field would probably have attracted local Houstonians who have nostalgia for the building.

Northwestern’s new stadium cost $862m for a 35,000 seat stadium… maybe, just maybe the $200m+ estimates for a sunshade are accurate.
Here is some basic math.
1. Interest cost on a $200M stadium sunshade
- Assumed interest rate (30-year muni-style debt): about 5% per year
- Annual interest payment:
200,000,000×0.05=10,000,000
So you’re looking at roughly $10 million per year in interest.
2. Extra revenue per additional attendee
- Ticket + concessions profit estimate: say $50 per person per game
3. How many extra people per year?
Extra attendees per year = 200,000
So you’d need about 200,000 additional total attendees per year.
4. Spread over home games
If you’re thinking football:
- Assume 7 home games per season
Extra people per game = 28,500
So you’d need roughly 28,500 more people per home game (on top of current attendance) at $50 of revenue per head to cover just the interest on a $200M sunshade.
If we were to have stayed in the Dome they would have forced us in to Reliant when it opened.

Like they did when TDECU was being built? And a sunshade wouldn’t have to be exactly like the quality of these nicer stadiums. It’s worth at least looking into if Nunez and the staff are interested.
Pezman, in a interview in 2023 said, “hundreds of millions”, when asked about sunshades.
Stadiums that are built with shades or to be domes are built very vertically, Baylor has an lower and upper concourse like NRG they are stacked so the shades or roof don’t have to cantilever very far. TDECU was built cheaply in a conventional manor, any shade would have to cantilever over 100 feet to provide any effect for the upperdeck. Do yall think if shades were reasonably economical A&M, UT LSU would not have them? We are not the only stadium in the heat, we just have a smaller core fanbase and have to rely on casual fans to fill the stadium.

All this talk about adding a canopies to TDECU is silly. Spending tens of millions of dollars, that UH doesn’t have, would be the biggest waste of taxpayer money. Use donated funds? Good luck getting donations for canopies. If you believe the posts, installing canopies will increase attendance. Maybe. Will it increase attendance significantly? Doubtful. If sitting in the sun is keeping fans away from the stadium, how do you explain the lackluster attendance to night games? How about scheduling teams that fans want to see?
Canopies at TDECU? As they say “The juice is not worth the squeeze.”
