Case Keenum Thread

If Bridgewater goes in he will fall flat on his face. Even if he is 100% healthy it is going to take a while to get up to game speed. Being away from the game for 14 months, he won’t be ready for full NFL game speed.

NFC title is there for the taking…
Bridgewater might be the boost they need…what?!!
As opposed to being on a path to 12-4?

I look at it like this:

  • If Case continues to start, leads the Vikes to the playoffs and a win or two there, he should be in demand next year.

  • If he starts and they falter, he should still be in high demand as a capable backup in the league

  • If the Vikes start Bridgewater, and he fails, that only helps Keenum next year when he’s looking for a job

  • If the Vikes start Bridgewater and he succeeds, then Case will again be in high demand as a capable backup in the NFL.

Basically, no matter what, Case comes out ahead.

Yahoo is about as pretentious as UT-Austin. I would not take them seriously; their “sports” rhetoric is not very objective.

While Bridgewater’s return from such a ghastly injury is a great story, it’s pretty obvious the job belongs to Keenum as long as he plays well. I can’t believe the Vikings are anxious to rush Bridgewater back in there too quickly; I would be holding my breath every time a defender gets near him. The next few weeks are going to be key for Minnesota, and if the Vikings win even two of their next four I would think Case would hold onto the starter’s role.

On 610 a Coog fan called in to let them know the Texans screwed up not keeping Case.
And their response is that Case has just improved.
Yes, he has improved. But if you look at the record of how the teams do when Case was not starting it is very telling.
The Minneapolis paper did a nice article that showed Case was a little below .500 as a starter. But when he was on the same roster and the other QBs played those same teams won just better than 20% of their games.

Case was not the problem with the Texans. It was the crap team put together by a crap GM.

When he was 0-8 as a Texan he played the majority of the time without Foster, Foster’s backup, Andre Johnson and they just let two OLinemen go to Free Agency (really why Shaub went to crap…no OLine).

Now he is 6-2 as a starter and they cannot give him props. Such is Houston.

You think the current Vikings roster is in better shape than the roster Case and Shaub had?

I think so.

I think the line is better, especially the right side of the line.

Also I think that the RB situation is better. Cook went down like Foster, but McKinnon has been awesome and in some ways better. There wasn’t a great #2 RB in Houston.

Lastly I think the wide receiver situation is better.

The Defense you can call a push, but the offensive system is the biggest X-factor.

Overall though, I would say the Vikings team is better

Ben Tate? He was a monster!

I don’t recall him being that great that year. Maybe I am wrong. 14 games played for 771 yards and 4 TDs. Not bad but not great either.

What year are we talking about? Are we talking about the entire Foster/Shaub tenure or one specific year? I know one year Foster/Tate lead the NFL in rushing. Tate had close to 1,000. Tate also lead the NFL in yard per carry. Then Foster got hurt and Tate carried the load. WR talent is a given. Oline is certainly better than the one we have this year, and look at how well Watson played behind them. The offensive system is different ,but just as effective IMO. Honestly Shaub had two good seasons but he wasn’t that good to begin with. He was the king of the pick six. Then he was traded to Oakland for a 6th round pick, and kept throwing pick sixes. lol

At some point, a player needs to focus on winning a championship and not just being happy to be on the team.

I think CK is ready to move past the “I am just here to help the team” mode.

No doubt Foster and Shaub were great. But we decided to let their blockers go to Free Agency. Then, MIRACULOUSLY, Shaub become mediocre.

I thought Shaub was really good. And when he had time (like other really good QBs) he was really good.

If Case had played on the 14 win Texans team with a really good OLine then he would have looked much better…strange how that works.

I completely agree with this. I’m going to also add, if Case would have played on that team, he would be our starter heading into this Sunday’s game. He needs to remain the starter in Minnesota, and if the Vikings screw him on this, I’ll have another team that I hate as much as the Cowboys.

Sorry I think we are on a different page completely. I am referring to this 2017 Vikings team that Case is on versus the 2013 Texans team that Case was on and started 8 games. I thought that was the question.

Otherwise you really can’t make a comparison. As mentioned 2 lineman were traded away, Foster gone, Tate average, etc.

I think if you compare those two teams straight up, I personally would say this Vikings team hands down.

He wasn’t the king of the pick 6 until we let the Oline go elsewhere.

I still say that every time somebody gets pick sixed- “he got schaub’d”

Following Case on here.
