I grew up there too. Winter is not great there. Part of the reason I am in Houston.

Tell me which of the things I posted is wrong.
NYC is a top 3-5 city in the world and THE Alpha city if the United States in terms of culture/ significance and achievement.
I know many Europeans whose life dream it is to visit New York City due to it’s charm and for many …it’s a once in a life time experience.
Maybe the UH apathy…is part of a bigger Houston type syndrome.
We accept mediocrity and brag and defend that it is greatness…it is NOT!

I enjoy VISITING NYC.
As far as LIVING there…it’s a different story.
I’d much rather have TX’s far lower real estate costs, far lower gasoline prices, lack of state income taxes, better Veteran’s perks (like the Hazelwood Act and disabled vet property tax exemptions), better gun culture, and richer HS/College football culture than New York’s.
I also like the idea of being able to live somewhere where I can actually see the sun come up and go down.
Houston is every bit as diverse as NYC, and has a great food scene as well…and of course…Tex-Mex and better BBQ; I don’t see NYC having any advantages there.
And if you live in the BURBS like Katy, as I do, you can also get great schools and very safe, clean neighborhoods.
So if you are asking me where I’d rather LIVE and WORK as opposed to where I would rather tour or visit…the answer is…the greater Houston metro over NYC and its metro.
So if anyone is wondering why Case (or anyone else) might prefer Houston over NYC…well…hey…those are some pretty good reasons! To each his own!
To me, NYC is a lot like Hawaii. I lived and worked in Honolulu for three years. GREAT place to vacation…LOUSY place to live. Just like NYC. Gimme the Houston area over Hawaii or NYC any day!

NYC has 45k cops, compared to Houston what, say 5400 cops for a city much larger in area to cover. NYC is a much safer city than Houston statistically counter to whaT southerner’s believe about the city and the stereotyping.

I felt very safe in NYC……cops everywhere….and nice.
I like how we’ve turned this into about us and choices. Case is under contract if he gets traded to the Jets his choices are go to NYC or quit playing in the NFL.

I think most of us would like to see Case start for the Jets as compared to being 2nd or 3rd string or the Texans.

Agreed we would all like Case to be a starter. I just think it’s funny like we’re weighing pros and cons as if Case would have a real choice in the master this year.

Houston and New York are both lousy- that’s why nobody lives there.
Reminds me of my economics professor: don’t listen to what people say, just watch what they do.

Agreed - I lived in NYC or the suburbs for 20+ years and was victim of one crime. On the other hand, in Houston and suburbs…5…6…?
Until recently when crime went up in every city after the pandemic, NYC was the safest city in the US for over 20 years after violent crime plummeted in the early/mid 90s. Folks need to check the facts before going off false, outdated, stereotypes.
Cost of living and coldness, on the other hand, no debate from me on those criticisms. Beautiful and less costly upstate or in CT!
