Chris Cenac Jr

Cenac had one play, I think it was against Kansas, where he got the ball in the middle of paint and started backing it into the basket.

I got super excited for a split second, thinking he was adding a new wrinkle to his game.

The attempt failed miserably and we didn’t see it again.

But I hope he keeps working on it. Hell, if he just got it on tape and made the defense think about it, it would help.

Agree 100%. That dude is stronger than he thinks he is and can dunk on just about anyone if he commits to it. Don’t be trying to Air Jordan a double-clutch reverse layup when you’re basically 7’. C’mon. :rage:

I think it was the Iowa State game where he did something similar by posting up in the paint and turning around for a quick 2 off the glass. When he posted up, it was pretty clear how much bigger he was than a defender with his 6’11”, 240 lb. frame, and how easily he shedded the defender. Honestly, I got kind of excited watching this move but this was the last time I recall seeing it.

I think Cenac is very capable of posting up but he prefers to float around on the perimeter setting picks then popping open for jumpers. His mid range jumper looks pretty sweet most of the time. Perhaps if he was here longer Sampson and staff would teach him a pump fake with a quick drive to the basket.

The problem here is fairly obvious by now. Defenses are basically chasing our guards off a ball screens knowing our bigs won’t take it to the basket. That makes it hard for our guards to get open looks as well, which is why I think the shooting percentages for guys like Sharp and Uzan are down overall.

Moving forward, I’m keeping my fingers crossed we’ll see a little bit more from Cenac in the low post, or at least mid range jumpers, although Im not sure how much change we’ll see with only 3 games left in the regular season. Regardless, I expect Sampson to try some adjustments to free up the perimeter shooters since he’s well aware of the issues.

Unfortunately I just don’t see massive changes in his philosophy since Jojo isn’t producing and Cenac is just a freshman.

I just love all of this Cenac doesn’t want to do this or Cenac doesn’t like doing that. Did it ever occur to anybody that he’s doing what Coach Sampson wants him to do?

Apparently NOT

“Just throw it down big man”

Fair enough Mark. I agree with your point but again it is about THE potential that everyone thought he had. Chris might have a stellar nba career. I sure hope so he will. It is just as big as he is. The 69 foot wing span that everyone was sold on has not materialize. Again and again our record is stellar and we indeed are a Natty contender. The Bob McAdoo, Kurt Rambis, Otis Thorpe, Moses Malone in me tell me what a waste of god given talent. Has the game changed that much? Of course it has but what about a Freshman Boozer capable of playing four positions?
Again our record is stellar and there is a real chance that we will win the Natty.

As far as where he plays on the floor and the shots he’s taking, he’s definitely doing what Sampson wants, because Sampson is playing to his strengths.

I’m 100% certain that Sampson would rather see him dunk over some fools than to shoot underhanded layups like a driving guard. :slightly_smiling_face:

I just hope that his beast mode light stays on longer as we get into March. Because of his shooting ability, he almost always has room to get to the rim.
