Former NC State player
Too Soon.
We don’t need to bring this up for at least another 78 years.
Back then the NIT was the biggest tournament
Tommy Lloyd on his name continuing to come up for North Carolina:
“Guys, this team has my full focus. Nothing, nothing, I promise you NOTHING, is knocking me off that path. You might call them ‘distractions,’ but it’s cause you’re distracted. That doesn’t mean I’m distracted.”
Can you imagine the eternal fallout for TL in Tuscon if he DOES in fact leave to Chapel Hill (as his continued mic fumbling would suggest), and on top of that he DOESN’T win it all before going?
Back then tuberculosis and polio was the biggest tournament.
Uh oh. Fwiw, this is less than ideal. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. (From an ISU perspective, I should clarify)
Even if he is distracted, what else can he say? How else can he handle it?
Just about any other way, but nooooot like that
Good move for them… I think…
The guy I coach with coached with Nate Loenser at Spirit Lake HS. Loenser was a finalist for the job. He’s Hoiberg’s defensive guru at Nebraska.
Nice, I like it.
It was admittedly a pretty stacked field. You also had Seth Tuttle and Ben Johnson (former @ehog coach) in the mix.
FWIW, Kyle Green brings instant continuity and stability in both recruiting and scheme. He was the man behind the curtain in both Jacobson and Otzelberger’s respective tenures. His contributions to both careers and programs cannot be overstated.
It was also likely the only HC job he’d take, as he’s always preferred work behind the scenes and just coach ball and build relationships. A true lifer and coach’s coach.
Green even stayed at ISU when his son AJ Green, now with the Bucks, was tearing it up at UNI. As well as encouraging his son to stay at UNI when he would have been a highly sought after transfer and a prized addition to ISU.
He will be sorely missed, but of course I wish him nothing but the best. Spirit Lake, too. Are they still the Indians?
They’re still the Indians. I didn’t know AJ Green was Kyle’s son. I attended Utah State for one year back in the 80s so I keep track of them some. Solid hire for the Aggies.
Looks like Lloyd is staying at AZ. Good for AZ. I’m a little bit surprised, though. I figured the allure of UNC would have been enough for him to take the job.
Watch Billy Donavon. He’s likely to take the NC job.
Lloyd’s new deal includes no longer reporting to the AD? Who does he work for then?
The President of UA I am sure.
its not that surprising when prestige is the only thing he’d get in chapel hill is the only thing he not getting in tuscon ![]()
By the by the Arizona A.D. is a woman.
One of the very few in College Athletics.
Am not saying that is a problem. Just that it is unique.
