Contagious disease

As an outbreak of measles continues to spread in west Texas and New Mexico, many people are wondering, how bad could it get?

Well, the first thing to know is that measles is one of the most contagious diseases on Earth — more than Ebola, smallpox or just about any other infectious disease.

That’s a hell of an odd choice for Spring Break!

Just kidding, I assume you’re there to serve time. I hope you get out early on good behavior.

Have they also been checked for hydrogen dioxide poisoning? I hear that’s something I should be concerned about.

Glad to see a state health official Dr Cook speak out about people throwing
“measles parties”.

A Texas health official is warning against “measles parties” as an outbreak grows in West Texas, resulting in the death of at least one unvaccinated school-aged child.

Dr Shuford with state health department is sounding the alarm too now that we are at 158 cases.

Dr. Shuford reported the state expects the cases to keep growing because of the lack of measles vaccination rates in Texas. The state says the best defense against measles is the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine which has been in use in the United States for more than 50 years.

“We are concerned about our MMR coverage across our state, knowing that it’s lower than some other places across the United States, and that this particular region has lower vaccination rates,” Dr. Shuford said.

Support their positions, my critique of their efforts would be they are at least 2-3 weeks late in speaking out.

Second measles death, this time in an adult in New Mexico county bordering Texas, where a 6 year old previously died last week. Measles virus was detected in the individual. The person was a resident of Lea County, where at least 10 cases of measles have been reported.

I have a meeting in Lea County on the 15th. I got the measles vaccine when I was a kid.

I don’t remember what age kids get the vaccine but I’m meeting a coworker who has a 1and a half year old.

Kids generally get the first MMR at one and then a second between 4 and 6. If you were born after 1968 you likely have immunity. One dose of the MMR vaccines gives a child 93% protection.

We all got small pox vaccine and polio vaccine, but I don’t remember what else was required. I know I had the measles and mumps as a small kid. When I was in the Navy, we got more shots than you can think of.

I know I had the chicken pox as a kid….i know I got a ton of shots when I was a kid….just was not sure if a measles shot was included.

If it was something I needed to get a vax for now.
I had cancer in my early 20’s and it’s never returned….but I had COVID back before there was a vaccine and was about as close to death as you could be and then survive.

My immune system has not been the best ever since….thats why I was trying to remember if I had the measles shot……last thing I need is to get it now.
