Coogs 7-2!

There’s a difference between some money and $8M, which I think (don’t quote me for sure) would be top 15 in the country. 2015 was just as good a start on many metrics (except the P4 part but we proved vs FSU, UL x2, Vandy, OU that it didn’t matter), and we did counteroffer Herman after 2016 and he didn’t care. And backing up the Brinks truck didn’t work out for Texas. They can sustain that kind of blunder, we can’t. But here we still are ten years later. The record doesn’t support you very well.

This is ludicrous.

Dana was an alcoholic who publicly taunted the university over his job security (during a losing season) while simultaneously deciding to punt on high school recruiting.

Willie Fritz is the “adult in the room” & we’re seeing that same maturity on the field. Comparing the 2 is nasty work :unamused:

So we lose our coach bc we’re broke. Got it :+1:t5:

I agree with your view of the difference between them. I didn’t start comparing them, but I do think it’s relevant that Dana was the last one we extended because of a 12-2 season. All indications are that it was an emotional decision at the time. Even if we can think of favorable comparisons for Willie (and we obviously can,) we the community that are invested in UH athletics were here before both coaches and will be here after. We have to be responsible and that’s an instance when we weren’t. It’s a lesson that emotion and desperation are not good bases for such an expensive decision. We tried the same with Herman and he ran anyway. There are no guarantees with throwing that kind of money around. Let’s chill out. Going “all in” at the poker table may look exciting in a movie, but it’s not often a good strategy, especially against opponents with more chips on the table.

A simple apology hurt your feelings? :joy:

You’re willing to take that chance? Cuz if we do & he bolts, I don’t wanna see none of y’all crying about it on this board.

I’m sorry you don’t have the intellectual bandwidth to defend against the actual points I’m making.

I’ll say straight up that I’m willing to take that chance. There are always up and coming coaches. We got Willie, we can get the next.

CWF’s track record supports me better than any argument that could be made for Texas’ hire of Tom Herman. Just bc they swung & miss on a an undesirable human being doesn’t mean that we’ll strike out too. We already know what we’re getting with Fritz. There’s no reason to think anything is gonna change with him. He’s the kind of guy you feel comfortable giving an extension to bc you trust that he’s gonna do things the right way & produce real results. We’re witnessing that right now

What? :joy:

That’d be a bold position to take for a program that already has major issues with fan support.

Of course we do. And we’re getting those results at the current level of pay. It’s hard to say that bumping him to $8M, as you recommended above, will result in 89% better performance. I’m not sure that being 9-1 right now instead of 8-2 is worth an extra $3.5M. It’s one thing to offer an extension, and we can talk about whether that includes more pay for him, more pay for assistants (probably), stadium improvements in lieu of pay increases (like with Sampson and Fertitta Center) or bowls full of red and white M&M’s in his hotel rooms for road games. Whatever. But that isn’t necessarily the same as unilaterally buying out the field which currently contains 0 competition at a level we can’t responsibly afford.

It doesn’t take advanced knowledge of context clues to understand that you were throwing shade my way

Maybe, at the very least, we can agree that this discussion can be moved to a thread titled…. “The Coogs are 8-2”, even if it is “off-topic…

They got that corporate shade throwing cadence down to a key

Not sure why we’re stuck on the 8 million number. You can extend Fritz for 6-6.5 million and 5 years. That would put him in the top 5 salary wise in the league, provide a little extra security in case another team came calling, show recruits that our program is secure under the current HC, and provide Fritz with a quality raise for the job he’s done.

It apparently takes imagination and a high level of self-centeredness, though.

I NEVER said this. I said we need to pay him (as a defensive measure) due to of all of the high profile jobs currently open. There could also be more jobs, like Ole Miss, that’ll open up as a result of several hires at the top.

A CWF/Keisean Henderson combo has got to be a sexy combination for schools like LSU, Florida, Auburn, UCLA, etc. You really think none of them are gonna take a hard look at that & make an, at minimum, $8m/yr offer to his agent?

If you have something to get off your chest, PM me. I’m not about to sit here & continue to play this passive aggressive game with you

There is no evidence as of right now that any of those schools have any serious interest in Fritz. There’s been gallons of ink spilled about each of those openings and his name simply is not coming up.
