Cougars > Longhorns IN HOUSTON

Since many here think the City of Houston is a UT/ TAMU/ LSU/ TT/ BAYLOR/ OU/ Any other school over UH “type of town”, are you noticing that the UH Basketball run is getting MANY times the coverage/ interest IN the City of Houston than UT’s FOOTBALL Postseason run the last two seasons?

We field a Nationally Competitive squad in Football or Basketball and we prove we OWN this City…not even close!

I’ve always heard of Houston as an Aggie stronghold.

Never horns or Baylor.

But this is our city, Houston.

Keep winning and the respect will be there.

(Football has a lot of work to do)

that 2 year H-TOWN TAKEOVER era landed more buzz, IN HOUSTON, than UT’s last two playoff appearance seasons

UT basketball is less popular than you think in Austin. Only when they win do the fans care. Basketball will never supplant football in Austin.

The point is that in the city of Houston, UH BASKETBALL postseason buzz > UT FOOTBALL postseason buzz

I think NW and some of north Houston has a lot of Aggie fans, but I remember a poll the Chronicle did maybe 20 years ago that showed UH was the city’s school.

We have a lot of alumni within a 100 mile radius of the city and many root for the Coogs when we are relevant.
Problem is that when we aren’t relevant most could care less and probably root for the University their kids or grandkids go too.

I was wearing my Phi Slama Jamma shooting shirt from homefield at a bar during the Big XII 'ship. Got a ton of love from Coogs and sips alike. One guy was driving past as we were walking home, stopped in the middle of the street in his boujee Benz to ask where I got it. Said he had been trying to get one, and was hinting around buying it off me (literally). As I politely declined, he drove on and I noticed he had a UT decal on his trunk :expressionless:

Out here in Katy, aTm appears to have more support than UH.

That said, our basketball run currently has us in the limelight, so let’s hope we win it all!!!

Offering to buy a UH shirt? That is ground for excommunication from Forty Acres.

A&M has taken over the Woodlands, some homeowners will not sell if you are not an
aggie. At the rodeo this past weekend, understandably most kids were going to A&M.

Anecdotally, shortly after the Peach Bowl I went on a Drs. appointment in the Medical Center wearing a UH T-shirt. Everybody, and I mean everybody, on staff there were talking about the game and UH’s success. I doubt seriously that many, if any, were UH grads.

My sister (non UH grad) said her whole company watched the game during work and she’s not even a football fan!

Did Houston have UT fever the last two seasons?
Did they light up the downtown skyscrapers in burnt orange?

They went further than our Peach Bowl!

“Not sell if you are not an Aggie”

Good lord!

A neighborhood full of “traditions” and “terrible sports”……but they will have you thinking they are on the verge of a national championship!

The Longhorns mostly have football fans.
They can talk college football all day but crickets when talking about college basketball.

I work with UT grads and most of them never been to a college basketball game and can only remember bits and pieces of the Final Four run they had with TJ Ford.

Houston is a huge supporter of the Coogs. Until we fall behind by 10

I once complained about Academy not having enough UH gear and asked why they had all the A$M and UT gear…and the girl told me it was because A$M was closer to the store. It the store on I-10 near Spring Branch.

During SWC years Ciogs and Ags were killin UT including wins at UT. I forget the details but others here can elaborate.

We all know wher thr Coog Paw sign came from. Kinda unique in that there is not just some shape that made sense, we have a real story that means something!
