Cougars > Longhorns IN HOUSTON

Mostly during the David McWilliams and John Mackovic eras at Texas.

The Academy in Cypress is full of Longhorn and Aggie crap with very little UH gear.

We still have a long way to go.

We have to market better IMO. Now, I don’t know the budget but I imagine it is smaller than horns and Ags so that could be a limiting factor.

We need more “non graduate” Houstonians supporting and wearing UH instead of Aggies/horns/tech etc

I’m not sure exactly how to do it but marketing and sports success is one way to grow the brand in Texas. I fear football is a big factor in growing our “tshirt” fanbase though.

We were 7-12-1 against Texas in the SWC. Aggy was 13-7. The mid-80s to the mid-90s were the best ten years in A&M’s history.

It’s hard to market college sports in Houston competing with pro sports.

I work with NBA fans who never got into college basketball since they never grew up with it.
Some of my international co-workers only know the NBA.

But but but we have 300K alumi in Houston where they all at , Aggie taking over the whole city lol

Aggies are a different breed of culture, I mean cult lol.

Absolutely they all act the same lol

We do, but aggie has more when you look at the greater Houston area. So I put them ahead of us in terms of support if you’re going to count the suburbs such as Katy, Cypress, Tomball, etc.

Thanks for the heads up. (writing in my notebook) Don’t move to the Woodlands.

Meyerland Academy has at least 3x as much UH gear as UT-Austin and A&M-College Station.

Y’all are just living in the wrong part of town.

I am a graduate of UT Austin. The truth is, for so many years, UT, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and others, worked hard to keep UH down. That’s because they wanted to come to Houston and recruit all the good athletes.

Go back to when UH joined SWC in 1976. In football, UH won or shared, first 4 out of 8 SWC Championships (1976 - 1984). UT, A&M, OU learned then, that UH could be a powerhouse, and worked to keep them out of the Big 12. Same thing, a few years later, when Phi Slama Jama showed up…

Isn’t that when A&M was caught cheating?

Yes. They were ineligible for the Cotton Bowl in 1994 for violations from ‘90-‘92.

I live in Katy as well and I can confirm that aTm leads the pack followed closely by UT. Every year when we have senior day at our church and kids say where they will be they next year the standings are aTm, then UT, then TT, then UH and others. That’s just the way it is.

I’ve heard so many parents say they worry about the safety of their kids – especially daughters – at UH. Like it or not, perception is what it is.

Thank gawd i dont live in that cesspool called katy.

UH #1 in Houston.

I live in Round Rock.

I guess members of your church haven’t been to Austin in a while……it’s gotten pretty rough.

I feel like kids go to Tech because they couldn’t get into A&M or Texas but feel like UH is beneath them.

Meanwhile, tech students and fans are rancid
