Go get him. Period.
Did he win last week?
The last 2 coaches from James Madison, Everett Withers and John Houston, have both flamed out as head coaches at the FBS level
Withers at TXST and Houston at ECU
But. James Madison U is FBS division 1 this year. So, the FCS label no longer applies. And they’re undefeated and ranked in their first Div 1 season.
Actually, I don’t know much about Cignetti. Right now I’m on board with Holgorson if he gets us to a bowl game.
I would be to if I thought we were headed in the right direction but were not.
His recruiting and the staff in general are horrible….stick with Holgerson and the future will be 6-6 seasons at best….line up cupcakes in OOC and beat the bottom feeders of the conference to get 6 wins.
And that’s in a good year……I’d like the program to be better than the 4th from the bottom of 16 teams every year.
There is nothing to show that says he will get better in the future….absolutely nothing.
It’s not as though we had a top 25-40 class last year or this year or the next year……
We have a coach openly stating he has given up on recruiting for next year….
Those of you that are on the fence or think 6-6 is good for year one? Look at facts….it’s not gonna get better.
Cignetti is a great coach and from things I have read he has created an outstanding culture at JM.
My concern would be his ability to recruit here….but I don’t know enough about him to know if he’s capable.
Too old for my taste. We need a coach who has time to build.
I’d look at JMUs AD. But as others have pointed out their previous coaches that were hired away haven’t exactly panned out at the next level.
Names of interest for me - Brian Hartline, GJ Kinne, Wil Stein, Kendall Briles, Willie Fritz, Art Briles, June Jones (really!) IN THAT ORDER
Guage interest from Klieman & Dykes (highly unlikely due to lateral move)
After that, consider - keeping Dana…
Craig Bohls, Matt Entz, Bob Stitt (I’d have questions why he’s not had interest in coaching since 2019).
Cignetti’s record of achievement is impressive and I’ve made it known he deserves consideration should we be in the market for a new HC. My reservation is that his success has been focused in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Virginia, which makes him a better fit in the ACC, or a program like ARMY.
I’m trying to decide if Cignetti is too Italian to be head coach of UH.
Does Army, Navy, Airforce recruit football players the same as non-military colleges?
Kinne has taken a very bad Texas State program that was picked dead last in pre season and led them to a 6-3 record so far…A Texas guy who has proven he can turn losers into winners…That is who i would go after if we make a change…
and his father survived a shooting - comes from good stock
Get outta here with June Jones he was horrible at Hawaii no way I want him
He wasn’t horrible, however he was about on par in his latter years verses what we are seeing now.
The good thing is we’d still be well-represented at the bars. But there’s no way Jones would be out with escorts. At his age it’s probably all Skype.
Explosive offensive mind. Would be fun to have on the sidelines here in some capacity. Offensive coordinator??
Name two completely incompatible strategies in football.
June Jones and defense.
He can change his stage name to Johnny Calhoun
And just for the record he took Hawaii to a BCS bowl game and revived SMU from the dead to where we are now, 7-6, 8-5.
