Yes he can.
Depends on who you are playing……but even if the other team has size you can still create mismatches to use to your advantage.

“The rich get richer, and that is the case for the Houston Cougars”
Wow, how far we have come in 9 short years…
If TA is starting over Dunn than TA has turned into something special
True statement !
Go Coogs !
That’s doesn’t have to mean iso ball. He is good at getting to the line and doesn’t always need to set for his shot.
Big time get. Love his size. Hopefully next years team is back to being elite on the boards!
You can also go small in spurts of a game. You always want to have your best players out there if you can.
A great pickup and it would have been better to have both Dunn and Mark on the team.
If Shead wasnt starting and coming off the bench but you have Dunn & Cryer in the backcourt you make lots of sense.
I just h8 watching going scoreless for spurts too often this past season because of lack of outside shooting!
It’s a 3pt game. You need a true big to have a down low threat to prevent tight mans on the perimeter. Getting it down low to draw a double team is going to require kicking it back out to the open man for a 3 or to begin passing it around the perimeter for the 3 by the open man to make the defense pay for the down low double team.
Or the guard can drive to the bucket for a layup, tear drop or to dish it to the big for a dunk/layup/legitimate close in shot, and if neither are there then the guard can kick it back out to the perimeter for an uncontested 3 or dribble out to start the offense again.
UCONN was successful at this. I love J’Wan but he’s not a true big. A 6’9" defensive player is going to thwart him as was seen especially the last few games. I think the days of the “power forward” are over unless he shoots threes like Fabian ultimately did well consistently starting about midway through his junior year (Final 4 year).
Hope J’Wan can develop into that. Have read several posts that he shoots 3s well during practice and warmups. But ultimately it’s a 3 pt game, and he’s not a true low. If he gets a matchup advantage by virtue of being a threat from 3 land then post him up and take advantage of it.
We need a true big. No? Ask UConn.
The key here is to get LJ Cryer first for then for coach to get a big who is a threat to score.
Hopefully Lath is ultimately a part of the “big” solution as well as McFarland.
Tugler is 6’7"??? He’s a beast down low in high school.
Until then a big from the portal seems important.
Or we’re just going to have to be “young” again and see how the next 2-3 years plays out. I’m not saying we won’t, but at this point hard not to say our first year in the B12 is going to be a learning experience especially if we’re “young”.
So, Francis & Ramon Walker both commented on the Dunn announcement. Excited about it
Would you do that if you’re leaving ![]()
I don’t see Francis or Ramon transferring out. The only likely transfer out player I see is Wilson if we get Cryer and that’s a stretch because Sampson has been really complimentary about his defense.
I don’t see how you watch the bigs make a big impact on UConn winning the NC and not get one, but I am trusting Coach Sampson on this one.
Welcome, Damian!
I love that he’s both an experienced college player AND still has two years left.
I don’t think UH would of beaten Arizona in the Sweet 16 game last year without Carlton. He was such a neutralize weapon. FAU also had this big russian 7 footer and were a few seconds away from reaching the final.
But we don’t need bigs
That game was one of Roberts’ best games
I watched one highlight vid, he reminds me Edwards but i like his catch and shoot better.
