beat me to it!

thats a hell of a plot twist (I haven’t been paying attention, maybe this has been discussed for a while now? )

the Lakers seem to be where coaches go to die these days.

They just won a championship 3 seasons ago.

Just don’t see him being a good fit in the NBA.

his sidecourt antics in LA on the lakers seem like a terrible idea but somehow must watch tv

A “championship”…

All the talk is coming from one side. The Lakers can talk all they want but it doesn’t mean squat until Hurley decides he wants to coach in the NBA.

Personally, think he should stay with UCONN. The Lakers are going no where anytime soon. James is past his prime, Anthony Davis is overated and always injured, and no one else on the roster moves the needle. No coach is winning a championship there with that roster.

Yep, if Hurley takes the job he’ll be out in 3 years.

He should take it!!! Even if he fails the money is enough for him and his kids to be worried free financial wise. He gone!!!

Coack K turn down the Lakers years ago Padawan!!!

Thats the point, Duke is a blue blood. Hurley turns down the Lakers and UCONN is officially crowned Blue Blood status.

If I’m a top 5 college basketball coach, the ONLY reason I leave is for the $. Good chance you get canned within 3 years even if you are semi-successful. Don’t win enough and/or tick off the wrong ‘super star’ and you are toast. No thanks. As a top 5 college coach, the world is your oyster. But if UConn is giving him $32M and Lakers triple that to $100M or something, yeah you gotta think about it. I mean there is rich and there is RICH. Ideally for him he just parlays this into a handsome raise. Looks like he is making about $5.5M/year now. Bump it to $8M and 6 years (~$50M all guaranteed and that should be good I’d think).

UConn probably gives him a raise and stays… It’s the likely outcome.

If he leaves it shakes the cbb landscape.

LBJ seems to be supportive of Hurley. The Athletic and other media outlets are quoting LBJ reacting to an April 2024 podcast interview with J.J. Reddick. LBJ about Hurley on X:

“He’s so DAMN GOOD!!!’ 'Along with his staff. Super creative with their [offense]! Love it.”

You need LBJ’s support if you plan on being his coach.

With NIL and NCAA allowing to pay players now, makes total sense, UCONN doesnt have the NIL or alumni money like other schools, Uconn is gonna have good run for now, but when the money and NIL catches up, more kids will be asking for higher asking price.

Hurley possibly jumping ship, very similar to Coach Jay Wright, Coach K, Coach Boehien retiring early, they all knew they couldnt compete with their fanbase’s NIL money for recruits in this NIL age. Duke has huge fanbase but they dont give back and contribute to NIL as much to schools like UT or Arkansas

It’s tough to coach in a league where the talent level is pretty much level. I bet he stays at UConn.

I bet he goes to the Lakers. These coaches want to succeed at the highest level. They love the challenge. Just my guess. Los Angeles is not Storrs.
