Salary is an obvious factor but just as important, how much say Hurley will have in building the roster. LBJ is on the downside of his career and the Lakers will need to be rebuilt. If Hurley is expected to coach the players that GM Pelinka drafts, without any input, it would cause me to pause and think this decision through.
This and he would probably get paid through the roof by a program that wants to win
Didnāt say he wouldnāt be good if he failed in the NBA and went back to college, I said ārecreating the dominanceā he had at UConn. You know 2 straight nattys and all. Silly to think he would roll off the NBA being fired and go to who knows what program (although probably an elite blue blood) and bring them 2 Nattys. Not saying it canāt be done but not really a precedent for that. Again unlikely. All Iām saying is that he is likely putting himself down a much bumpier road whether in NBA or NCAA return after NBA if he leaves UConn and the tradeoff will be for that Laker $$$.
Maybe he really wants the challenge of the NBA - okay cool. Go struggle to be .500 and deal with superstar egos- plenty of NBA coaches have made a ton of $ and got chewed up in that grinder and he would be no different.
Fun fact, in the last 3 years, the Lakers are exactly .500. 123-123. Lebron aināt getting younger. He wants the $ and the āchallengeā? Cool. Have at it bro.
Honestly I hope it happens because it would benefit Houston. With Eddy finally gone from Purdue and if Hurley leaves UConn that can only benefit us Iād think with our super star HC returning and a bunch of production back.
Itās happening

Sampson is taking the Lakers job?
Hurley to Lakers!!!
probably lows up uconns chances to join the big12 too
If he gone! It could lead to a interesting domino effect. I wonder if they promote within or poach another coach.
they have to promote from within⦠its too late to risk having a roster implosion⦠no one is left
No sorry lol Hurley is happening I misread ur response
Not true. Phil Jackson is still available
If he gone Uconn players have a 30-day window to enter the transfer. Even though the portal has been closed since May.
Iām for it! I havenāt watched the NBA in years. Excellent place for D. Hurley.
If Hurley takes the Lakers job, I was reviewing UConnās roster for 2024-25, and the only player I would keep an eye on for potential transfer is Fr. Liam McNeeley, from Richardson, TX, via Montverde Academy. I do not believe he was offered by UH but he had offers from all the blue bloods and was one of the top high school players in the country. It may be wishful thinking on my part since he is originally from Texas but if he enters the TP, I would at least reach out to him to gauge his interest.
We heavily recruited Liam when there TA was deciding ā¦we stopped recruting him when TA confirmed his return but just nothing that there is a strong tie there already
if a player gets injured and/or doesnt look as good as we had hoped in practice, when liam enters the portal weād be a player⦠the chances are low but they arent zero
Heās definitely going to be canned after 3 seasons but thereās still no reason not to take it. Worst case he can come back and coach Kentucky after Pope flops.

at this point coaching in the NBA at least the players have contracts and you know pretty much what your roster is going to be
coaching in college must be unimaginably stressful
Be nice to be able to spend time focusing on basketball
