I seem to recall the renovation involved lowering the floor, rather than raising the ceiling, or maybe that was an earlier proposal instead.
And also that one the renovation plans had luxury boxes at court level, with the normal seating extending up above the boxes.
Could be this was after the plywood luxury box debacle with Hofheinz, but pre Fertitta Center renovation ideas. I simply do not remember. Maybe someone else here does.
Fertitta Center is a gem. They got it right, IMO. It is an intimate arena and fantastic for watching a game. Going to be an even bigger blast when packed and SRO.
And it is very cool that UH put some student seating on the floor. Reminds me of the way Duke puts their students down low so they are hyped, loud, seen and heard by both teams (and part of the broadcast also).
I wish they gave tours of Fertitta Center. I would like to check out the areas we donât see or have access to.
Mom said âItâs better to reach for it than to dodge itâ . . . . .
Been to IUâs gym and Butlerâs gym. Felt almost as far away from the court as it did in the Dome years back, and the Superdome and Lucas Oil stadium. Iâd prefer never to be that far away again. . . . . but next year, some will need binoculars to see the games . . . . .
You dontât build a church based upon the seating capacity on Easter Sunday. If there are too many seats, you run into situations where people donât buy season tickets because they know they can buy them later.
We are much biggger Universities then those schools the likes of Gonzaga. I still think around 9000 would of been a magic number. Hey UH wins some championship and keeps the winning up like this for years coming, then UH can always build a new larger arena over by the warehouses university owns on 45. Give Fertita Center over to womans volleyball and basketball. Fertitta Center 2.0 similar design but build it to add a mimi upper deck add 2-3 seats. With the Big12 money coming in and if continue go deep in the tournament and win some championships, the basketball program will have money never seen before in its history.
This is a worthless thread causeâŠnext year when we are in the BIG XII ticket prices will at least double if not triple based on our current prices in a G5 conferenceâŠ
If you look at prices currently in the BIG XII we are at the rock bottomâŠso when our cheap ### fans get their bill next yearâŠthen letâs talk on whether there is enough seating capacity!!!
That is a slippery slope UH needs to watch out for. There are fans who have season tickets to UH Football and Basketball. If the administration wants to jack up prices on both then they are going to make quite a few fans have to choose and not renew one of the sports. UH is the blue collar worker alumni base and not the wealthy hedge fund and generation money of UT and Baylor. We need be really carefull about how we price the tickets when you comebine increases on both basketball and football.
There are 4 womans restrooms to two mens on the main concourse such a major oversight the architects should of seen. UH really needs to consider chaning one of the womans restooms to a mens so can have 3 and 3 equally. The lines at the restrooms at half time are crazy
Tilman was emphatic in the arena being smaller. As a businessman he understands the P&L and the expenses that come with venue management. It also helps our ticket department. I like hearing, @sold outâ and watching our ticket prices go up. Its better for the school.
During the planning phase, the âcritiqueâ at all venues was that there was not enough ladies rooms and they had to wait in line for too long of a time . . . . . solution was to go overboard, just like everything else when someone in any minority station complains . . . . .
