Discussion: Shiel Wood accepts Texas Tech DC job

You contradicted yourself. Wood coached with CWF this season. Yes that is two seasons with the same HC.

The recruiting class is staying strong. Even on the defensive side of the ball. Screw Wood. He can kick rocks. Go hire Ed Orgeron!!!

Very glad to see that!

Yes. An accusation that is based on past reactions on this very board. Prove me wrong.

Two seasons out of an 8 year career, with a promotion to a P4 school in the middle of it. He’s hardly a lifer.

All of this gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands is so over the top. It’s ridiculous. It’s not like we lost Nick Saban.

Again, I wasn’t mad we lost Wood. I was more angry at the timing and if we would lose recruits because of it.

Coach Wood was most likely the top defensive mind in the world.
To lose a coach of this caliber will set us back 10-15 years.

I think we should fire Fritzy now and bring in a new head coach so that he can bring in his guys.

Has Wood officially left? I have not seen anything official yet. Why are you so worried about our AD’s silence? You say that it is his job to comment publicly on this, before Wood has even left. And that his silence troubles you. You are questioning his leadership over this, for not publicly commenting within hours on the night a rumor comes out.

Now Chris, we know you are troubled over the AD not commenting on a contract situation before it’s official. But is it bad leadership to not give statements to the press regarding an ongoing contract negotiation? You think it is, but that sounds a little extreme, Chris.

I will be the first one to write that Ben.

You’ll be the first to write what, Chris?

That I was wrong Ben. You are correct that Wood has not officially left. Our program has made so many bad decisions that with a new HC we need to keep the best assets that we can.

Wood is still listed as DC on the UH Athletic’s Website. Could UH be countering?

I don’t doubt that Wood is leaving today. But I’m not sure it’s valid to criticise Nunez for not saying anything the day before he actually leaves. It reads like an excuse to attack the AD.

Do you think we could convince Coach Wood to take that job?!?

Does Texas Tech have to pay us for poaching our coach that was under contract?

It’s Wood that owes us for any buyout, although Tech may pay him back.

usually in HC contracts, we put in a clause that the team that “poaches” our coach, pays us a penalty fee.

UT had to pay us poaching herman and we tried to negotiate it to a series and they declined

I’m not sure how you could force a school that isn’t part of a contract to pay something.

I’m pretty sure the contract buyout is between the school and the coach. The school poaching does tend to ultimately pay for it though.

Tilman discussed this in great detail. How he added a clause that the other school would have to pay US if they steal our coaches. It was more than just the remainder…it was a multiplier I believe.

Many think that was the contract verbiage that scared Kiffin away
