Discussion: Shiel Wood accepts Texas Tech DC job

I think it’s pretty telling nobody decommitted & went to Tech. I trust Willie to find a good replacement but it’s bad optics to lose a coordinator to Tech. We’re not a G5 program anymore

Last game of the 2025 season…

In any event, that excerpt doesn’t really specify what he would owe.

It would be fun if this all ends up being a fake-out and Wood stays put. Tech fans would be 100x more apoplectic than anything seen on this board.

Oh, duh… thanks. It’s still 2024 isn’t it.

It must’ve been quite a rainbow when we got into the Big 12 two years ago. The Applewhite years were pretty bad.

I agree, Wilson posted on his Instagram story a few weeks ago asking NIL agents to not contact him until after the regular season was over. I assumed that he was gone after seeing that. If I remember correctly, he was a late portal commitment, so he hasn’t even been in Houston that long.

No nothing just saying, full bio still up?

No shot he was staying regardless if Wood stays or not.

Maybe you should change your “All aboard the Fritz Express” as your moniker.

A bit contradictory no?

We kept Tom Herman when we were a G5 and SC was in the SEC…

Optics be damned!

We had a winning record in both of Applewhite’s seasons, and he was a rookie head coach. I wouldn’t have hired him in the first place, but firing him for Holgi was both tactically and morally wrong.

“The sky has been falling for many years!”

Checks notes to see we are now in the Big 12. We are spending more on upgrades to the stadium than it cost to build the stadium. Also is reminded that the stadium just turned 10 years old. Sees we have a shiny new(ish) IPF.

Yeah, things seem awful with no hope in sight!

JLCoog,
Is that thier goal or do they pay that to all 100 players on the roster ? If the later,
that’s $2.5 million/year they are spending , plus the mega bucks the high star players may command. Was looking on the matador club site, but not finding any numbers there. Any idea where we stand on paying a baseline NIL amount ?

That’s why building a roster through the portal is unsustainable for us. Portal guys will just switch schools like that for the most dollars & unlimited transfers will allow guys to do that. Hamilton did the same last year went from TSU to UH to Ole Miss

Who cares about facilities when the stadium is empty and the team is 4-8? At one point Khator bragged about firing coaches who got eight wins, and now there are plenty of people on this site simply hoping to make a bowl game next season. Meanwhile SMU is playing for the ACC title and is likely in the playoffs regardless. But hey, we got a practice facility, woohoo!!

The game against Baylor was great and it was our last home game. Sure, our offense looked inept as usual, but we had a great turnout and fans were excited.

All players on the football, basketball, women’s basketball and softball rosters receive that as a baseline, I believe - not sure about baseball.

All 100 players get $25K a year. It is a baseline. They can make more on individual deals. They have to finish the semester to qualify.

Do we have trolls or just miserable posters?
