Donovan Mutin status - amongst other topics

A lot of Ivy league players made it to the NFL. Ask Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jason Garrett

They dont offer athletic scholarships but they have other workarounds that pay your expenses that its practically an athletic scholarship.

D3 schools do this as well.

Hall of Famer Howie Long

He was Ivy. Dartmouth maybe (?)

No. He went to Villanova

Many people recruited by Ivies don’t end up enrolling because they want higher level football and maybe don’t think they can handle all the extra work, despite a 95% graduation rate. If they have financial need the Ivies will cover it all.

Hope Mutin is able to go on Saturday. We need full force!

Now that this thread as somewhat veered off-topic and to get things back on track, Mutin was offered by two of the service academies (Army and Air Force) and Rice before choosing UH. So it’s safe to say he could have played at the Ivies as well if he wanted to.

Yes, and with title 9 its a viable way to get your daughter into some really low acceptance rate schools. My advice, is to not do the traditional sports like soccer, softball, basketball or volleyball. Too many do those sports. Go for some smaller sports, like field hockey, golf, fencing, rowing, diving, that type stuff.

I believe the scandal at USC was for the rowing team, for example.

Sam Khan says Mutin is good to go for Saturday.

My next door neighbor played baseball for Princeton but didn’t play after college. He was a great assistant baseball coach in little league.
Son of friends down the street went to play football at Harvard but ended up switching to baseball and later was drafted. Now in the Reds organization. You can make it to pro ball from Ivy.

damn those leather helmets!!

The guy asked an honest question per his post about the Ivy experience. Your sarcasm in multiple posts is nauseating. Your hubris is only matched by your lack of comprehension of the original post. No where does he mention that going to an Ivy League school is a waste of time.

To ask the benefit begs the question, sir.

Thank you to those that replied politely. To those that need to work on their reading comprehension, I never questioned the benefits of going to an Ivy League school, just that of playing football at one.

It will be great to have Mutin back.

This was one of them.

Football gets you into an Ivy League school whereas you might not be admitted without the football recruitment and/or athletic department support. Football player at Harvard=Student at Harvard. Was that so hard?

It is difficult to get into an Ivy League university if you are a white male. Just the way it is now

Majority of Ivy League students are white. You also have to factor in legacy status (which is a very big deal), well-connected families, and politics / finance recruiting pipelines

If you are a lone wolf white male applying to Harvard, yes it’s gonna be tough. However, if you are the son of a managing director at Goldman Sachs or nephew of an executive at McKinsey Consulting, you’ll get in there regardless of your race/ethnicity
