I crapped on him all the way up until this game. I took a step back and realized his talent, especially after it’s continued to improve each game.
He absolutely has a big weakness:
takes far too long to make up his mind; indecisive (compare his release time to Ewers)
If he’s back next year and can speed up that release/become more decisive - we have a VERY good QB on our roster who will definitely lead us to more victories.
Coaching is holding him back, at times. The young man can sling that football, let him play loose and freely and he will continue to impress.
Probably doesn’t require a thread, but I appreciate his talent. Go Coogs, Let’s Beat K-St!
After watching the game back I was thinking the same thing. For any weaknesses this team may have, the QB and receivers are starting to look REALLY GOOD!
Agree Smith is showing signs of progress and takes too long to make reads. He needs to work on not throwing the balls against his body and momentum. He did again against UT. I’m sure he is just trying to make a play but it is too high risk. The 4th and 1 at the end of the game was a horrible pass that the receiver had no chance to catch.
His QBR average the first four games was a paltry 51.7. His QBR average the past three games is an impressive 85.8 which would slot him in the top 6 in the nation. He’s currently 36th after being ranked around 90th after the first four weeks.
Smith and this WR core (btw your top 3 receivers are all sophomores and Dalton Carnes is a walk-on RS freshman!!!) has the potential to be among elite status by the end of the season if he continues improvement.
It’s not out of the question that he can be another draft pick in 2025.
He has the physical tools to be a good qb but to get to the next level he needs to improve his footwork, pocket presence, and touch. A better line could do wonders
I’m going to say this Belk schemed up a D for this particular game for the most part it seemed to work except for the 21 jump they spotted Texas initiallly. But after they settled down
