Donovan Smith is a good QB

In how many games so far have we had an advantage at QB?

As to an advantage at QB, I’ve yet to see it with the exception of the Sam Houston State game.

My take, stated at lunch prior to the game, is that our offense has too many deep routs for our receivers. With about 7 1/2 minutes to go in the second qtr, short, quick routs were run and we became very successful. Two td’s in those last 7 minutes. We also switched from 3 3 5 d to 4 3 or 4 2 at the end of the half. Texas could not move the ball when we did so. Kudos to the DC. UH played much better in 2nd half than I expected. Made good adjustments and UT did not. We were very close to winning against a team that had superior talent and better officiating . . . . . despite having more penalties than UH.

Greg Ward’s spped wasn’t the best part of his running. He also had a quick start and could cut on a dime. I don’t think there will ever be a QB Smith’s size who can move like that.

GW1 was so shifty. Miss watching him play.

That’s a pretty big IF

He seems to always go with the primary receiver.

Coaching was by far the best of
The year so far, even for Belk. But the two defensive time outs in the second half hurt.

Yes they did, Holgy wasn’t too happy with him exhibited by giving him a tongue lashing it seemed on the sidelines on camera

He has elite receivers which helps to simplify the game but he really has issues with accuracy and sometimes decision-making.

He’s mediocre so says his stats and W/L record. His accuracy is erratic.

Yeah that’s a problem!

Not really.

He’s completing 67% for the season (72% in October), with 16 TDs and only 4 INTs; and almost 2000 yards.

Donovan wants to make it to the next level NFL, much to Holgy credit he’s capable of helping him do that.

He is showing steady improvement and was in position to beat UT last Saturday.

We can win with Donavan.

My brother is a Techie and he really got upset when Smith left Tech. Our guys looked like they had figured a few things out Saturday. UH played hard so maybe the offense/defense will improve.

Correction: His results are mediocre. W/L are 3-3. Meh.

It’s really quite an impressive improvement, especially considering the increase in opposition talent he’s done it against.

Improvement during the season is the hallmark of a great program (Sampson’s basketball players and team seem to do it every year).

Donovan is definetely getting better with each game. I hope he comes back next year.

You all have to remember that games are the “real” deal. You can practice all you want and but game day is judgment day. I am seeing a player with a high IQ. He has progressed immensely since our first game. IMO we only have seen a small % of what he can and will do. He is indeed a “diamond in the rough”. We also have to realize that Mr. Paul is a Junior. Will Mr. Paul play his senior year?
Donovan is also a junior. Can you imagine having both Mr. Paul and Donovan playing their senior season? This first BIG12 season is IMO turning out to be a “rehearsal” for 2024. Let’s all hope we will have both playing for U of H in 2024.
