It’s with great sadness I just received the news from a family friend (who wished I post this for all his friends) that Patrick who most have come to know and love here passed away this morning. It’s been a struggle the last couple years.
I wish I met this man years before I did. It was at the Fort Worth bowl IIRC when Case and the Coogs finally broke thru, to defeat Air Force. Ever since, he was a great friend chatting my head off whenever we went to eat and next to me at football & basketball events.
He held season tix in both since the inception of the programs as I understand it and if you wanted to relive Houston Cougar history - HE WAS YOUR GUY!
I have spoken to Pat on a few occasions. What a wealth of knowledge in UH sports and world history. I was just speaking about him a few days ago. RIP Pat, you will be missed.
I saw him around, but I never got the chance to meet him. As I recall, he was a football and basketball season ticket holder for about 75 years - incredible.
And you’ll probably never find anyone who hated UT as much as he did, though I think that’s a worthy life goal.
RIP to one of the greatest Cougar fans we’ll ever have.
He was a great Coog fan and i really enjoyed talking with him over the years and watching a couple of Cougar football road games with him back in the day. No one knew more about Coog football history than Pat.
There has never been a truer UH fan than Pat Moran, some as true, but none truer. He was a great guy and I’m sorry to hear of his passing, but at his age it was inevitable. We rode together to a UH-UTEP football game in El Paso and on that drive he told me more about UH history than anything I have ever read.
Rest in peace Pat, great Coog and dear family friend. Met Pat at the Garden state bowl in 1980. He loved UH, was a world traveler, WW2 vet, a great man. Let’s win the national championship for Pat and other great Coogs (James Langham, et al).
I am so sorry to hear about Pat passing away. I have known Pat for over 45 years, and I have never met a better, and more cantankerous Coog Fan than Pat.
I remember going to the SWC basketball tournament in Dallas, and we would always see Pat. He hated Dallas with a passion, and would not stay in Dallas, or spend any money in Dallas while he was there. He would go all day at Reunion Arena, and not buy anything to drink or eat. About the third or fourth year that we saw him up there, we finally convinced him to go to Campisi’s with us to eat, but it sure took a lot of convincing.
Pat had season tickets starting in our Inaugural season of 1946 in basketball and football. I sure am going to miss him.

Only knew Pat here online. Great perspective and loyalty.
I had already been missing him and am sad to learn he is gone.
yragha, It took me a while to digest this news. Mr. Moran and I exchanged emails through the years. He was my favorite poster before and after when Robert Sellers took over digest and what is today Coogfans.
Over the years I often mentioned about UH being part of a power conference again. Wishing that it would happen before our “greats” will see it happen before moving on and be reunited with god. I always meant it for Pat without writing it. Every great that passed on I would always pray that Pat could us on top again. He told me how old he was way back then. Every season that passed I kept thinking it would happen and Pat could be here with us. Thank god it happen and Pat could enjoy it. Mr. Moran is right there close to the bench in this March Madness run. You know he is.
Every poster on Coogfans today ought to look into our “library” and enjoy reading his posts. If U of H could scan his brain they would be able to make the greatest UH documentary ever written or produced. I can not think of another poster, human being that means UH more than Mr. Moran.
Yes U of H was his passion and history was close second. We exchanged many emails about Texas history, its independence and the close relationship that France has had with Texas. How often in our lives do we meet/exchange with someone like Pat? He was curious about everything. One of my deepest regret as a U of H alum/internet friend is that we never met face to face. I did not get the chance to go to Houston often due my jobs. I have to stop right here. Please yragha tell his family, his friends that I am thinking about him. Rest In Peace SIR.
