J’Wan…….173 games. DAMN !!
A record, within a record
And one that will never be broken.
Speaking of players on this list, just a friendly remind that we are raising another Cougar great’s jersey with our number 7 all time leading scorer Dwight “Double D” Davis for Sunday’s game with ASU.
I wish we had done Chaney and Davis sooner but so thankful for the staff to realize they deserve it.
Still wish we would have a special display for Louis Dunbar’s journey with the Harlem Globetrotters.
Come to think it, a display for our USA Olympians would be nice too. Dream, Glide, Kenny Spain and Dwight Jones. Then there were four for international, Carl Herrera 1992 (Venezuela), Rolando Ferreira1988,1992(Brazil), David Diaz1992(Colombia), Or Goren 1976 (Israel).
Can anyone tell me about Goren?
AI says
Or Goren is an Israeli former basketball player who played for the University of Houston from 1978 to 1980. Standing 6’3", he played the shooting guard position and is recognized as one of the most significant figures in Israeli basketball history.
University of Houston Career (1978–1980)
Goren played two seasons for the Cougars under coach Guy V. Lewis.
• Stats: He appeared in 48 games, averaging 3.9 points per game during his collegiate career.
• Accuracy Note: While some records list him as a member of the 1977–1980 teams, official NCAA stats record his active playing seasons at Houston as the 1978–79 and 1979–80 seasons.
International and Olympic Career
Goren had an extensive career representing the Israeli National Team.
• Olympic Involvement: He participated in the 1976 FIBA Pre-Olympic Basketball Tournament and the 1976 FIBA European Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
• National Team Standout: He also competed in multiple FIBA European Championships (EuroBasket) in 1975 and 1977.
Professional Legacy in Israel
After his time at Houston, Goren became a legend in the Israeli Basketball Premier League:
• All-Time Scoring: He finished his professional career with 6,606 points, which currently ranks as the 5th-most points in the history of the Israeli Premier League.
• Teams: He played for several top-tier Israeli clubs between 1973 and 1993, including Hapoel Ramat Gan and Hapoel Gvat/Yagur.
Emanuel Sharp, with 1,416 pts. Now ranks 18th all time, passing Andre Owens
(261) career 3-pointers, ties Robert McKiver, for 2nd all time in UH History
And now AI saying Sharp is undisputed champion with 276 and Sasser had 274.
@RWcoog that AI list seems a bit off
Jarace Walker only made (35) total 3pts at UH
AI sucks for stuff like this, you shouldn’t be using it. If you feed it the correct sources it can be great but relying on it to get info like this is a waste of time.
If Cryer was only for his 2 years at UH……most impressive.
I probably made about 20 changes with AI to come up with that list. I am sure I missed a few.
