If you look at our record vs UT, the last two losses were after SWC breakup, one was bleacher gate and one was a blowout in Austin, so we won 40%. Considering their record attendance (before expanding stadium) was against UH, and some of their worst losses were against UH, those grated on Dodds. Our teams and attendance at the time of break up were poor making it easy to get rid of us.

UH was competitive while in the SWC and had a winning record against all schools except UT, Ark, and A&M from 1976-1995. This was our record versus our conference peers:
UH v Texas Tech (5-3 before we joined the SWC)(12-7-1 in SWC)
UH v TCU (13-7 in SWC)
UH v A&M (5-6-3 before we joined the SWC)(7-13 in SWC) 5 game losing streak at end of SWC while A&M was ranked during all of those years.
UH v UT (0-1-1 before we joined the SWC)(7-12-1 in SWC) 4 game losing streak at end of SWC
UH v BU (3-5 before we joined the SWC)(10-9-1 in SWC)
UH v Ark (1-1 before we joined the SWC)(5-11 in SWC) 8 game losing streak while Ark was ranked during 5 of those years
UH v SMU (0-1 before we joined the SWC)(10-7-1 in SWC)
UH v Rice (3-2 before we joined the SWC)(16-4 in SWC)
Competitiveness had little or nothing to do with B12 invitations when the SWC broke up.

Competitiveness had nothing to do with anything that went down. It’s just a way that sanctimonious BU and TT fans try to justify their inclusion.

I have a close friend who is in the sports business who attest to the fact that the SEC pays big bucks to top recruits. Big Bucks!!

A little historical perspective that probably applies today. SWC schools always paid players everyone knew it, we did too. The reason SWC schools started turning each other in was the 80’s oil economy hit Texas and each schools monied boosters were going under.

Uh . . . Everyone already knows that but maybe not the ones that wear blinders. The basketball scandal barely touched the surface of what’s going on under the table for big time college recruits.
I see many similarities in the corruptness of the SEC now vs the later years of the SWC, but there are also a couple big differences.
First the SEC is still winning a lot. If they start to lose to other conferences more and get left out of the invitational, then they will start to get more infighting as with the SWC and less benefit of the media doubt.
Second, I think the all Texas thing for the SWC was bad. Places like Houston and DFW had fans from all 8 schools piled on top of each other, and politicians all in the same govt building from different schools. The SEC is spread among many more states. Each fan has their region mostly, more politicians that could look at their own and ignore the others.
In the end, if the SEC starts to lose championships, they will start to fall apart and some of the little in-conference squabbles will become major fights.
The SEC has had it’s ups and downs, but they still had their family like attitudes. The fans will hate each other and all that for game day, but in the end, they stick together, specially the administrations and AD’s – always have, always will.

I wasn’t talking in the next 6 months, but 10-15 years as with the SWC process. There was already grumbling last year by many fans (many is still a small minority here) about how they lost much of their tie to the other division with some teams playing each other only once or twice a decade. With 14 teams, the close family feeling is watered down and not as strong as it was.
Well, fans aren’t the ones making decisions. If they were, I doubt OU would still be in the Big 12.
And I’ve never heard a school mention quibbles over scheduling as an excuse for leaving a conference. If they don’t like the scheduling, try to organize a consensus among the other members to change it.
Governing by consensus is one thing that sets the SEC apart from the Big 12, ACC and PAC 12 in my opinion. It means there needs to be an overwhelming majority in favor of a policy change before that change is adopted. Greg Sankey and Mike Slive understood this, which is why they never espoused a first and second tier grant of rights. The only GoR that’s applicable to SEC schools are third tier rights for the SEC network, which runs into the 2030’s. And one thing every SEC school would agree on is the success of the network and the need to maintain that success.
Guessing you have not heard of the Mountain West Conference.
Purple, I was born and raised in the SEC world. You would have an easier chance of getting the Baptist Church to turn pagan than to blow up the SEC. The SEC is as entrenched a religion as the Baptist Church in the south.
