Farewell To The AAC

I think SDSU has until the end of the week, so they sent a vaguely written letter that could be interpreted either way in court. But no one has invites yet, just verbal assurances.

Perhaps the AAC will now become the premier conference of wisdom?

The AAC was good for us at the time, clearly better than CUSA and quickly emerged as the “best of the rest” conference. We frequently had 3-4 teams ranked, going to big bowls, strong programs with UH, UCF, CINN, Memphis, ECU for a while, sometimes Navy. We were having almost as many kids drafted into the NFL as the Big 12. Although I am excited about the upgrade, I am thankful for what the AAC gave us for a time.

Mike Aresco sounded a bit salty about losing the 3 schools to Big 12. Now he’s talking about there’s a P2. At the same breath, he wants to get rid of P5 branding.

Clip starts at 8:30 mark.

I was there for the Keenum years… Robertson was rocking!

And I’ve only seen tailgating get close to the tailgating from those years for the TDECU opener, Louisville and OU.

I’ve heard many people talk about how good tailgating was during Robertson stadium years.

Tailgating during TDECU fell apart when they started moving the location around several seasons because of new construction of various buildings. Some of the big tailgaters with RVs, tents, etc. were frustraded. I know some of them stopped doing it.

Then the pandemic came along.

I believe though that the Big12 entry will revive tailgating.

I think the old pavilion at Robertson was the main tailgate spot from my college days.

The garage took a lot of tailgate room from what I remember…

And they used to have frats tailgate right there in front of the stadium where I think they now have rental tailgates…

And then many other small tailgates all over the different parking lots…

Make sure to wear a UH hat if Herman plays at Rice stadium lol

You know he coached at Rice before during his early days.

I hope the AAC continues to make noise for years to come.

I think the AAC took too many schools. They should have only added UTSA from Texas and probably would have been fine without Charlotte.

I think they wanted to buy all of the high ceiling G5 stocks low so they can build them up into a consolidated top G5 conference.

They add/regain schools in Houston, San Antonio, Birmingham, Charlotte, Boca Raton & Denton which is good exposure for a conference already in big markets

I’ll still be watching it. It’s good football.

Roughly T-minus 12 hours!

Anyone know a link to the midnight toast? I can’t find anything about it on UHCougars.com, Cougar All Access, or the YouTube site.

I haven’t seen any kind of a link to it either.

I’m not sure what a virtual celebration looks like. Sounds like something leftover from the pandemic.

Basketball: Memphis and UAB.

Football: Tulane, ECU, Memphis, SMU, and UTSA.

Baseball: ECU

According to the email that was sent, it will be on the YouTube site.

I hope there is more content than just a toast. How long does that take? Five seconds? Maybe a sports video and interviews with Fertitta, Khator, Pezman, CDH and CKS?
