Fertitta Picked As Ambassador to Italy

It was just the espresso scene from Mulholland drive.

I get the impression , admittedly without any insider info, that he is very hands on in
everything he does. So worst case scenario is he resigns from the UH board to focus on being an Ambassador and oversee his multi billion dollar empire. That
would be a big lose for UH.

I’m sure he has trusted advisors that make a difference in his organizations, but I believe he is also quite hands on and visible. Typically the ambassador lives in their host country. It’s one thing to jet around the USA to visit his properties, go from a UH BOR meeting to a Rockets game, and then to his office for a meeting with his attorneys or something, it’s a much different thing to be trying to go back and forth from Italy for the same plus adding on the Ambassador duties. He will have to be willing to give some things up and I just don’t know if it is in his personality.

It isn’t that he lacks the organizational structure to allow him to be Ambassador.

Plus just in the last year he has bought more land in River oaks and next to the Post Oak, both with the intent to develop or further develop, additional car dealerships, and has placed bids for more sports franchises. I think he is intimately involved with the strategy and overall execution.

Assuming his Senate confirmations is uneventful, I wonder how long he would choose to serve. Like, if he acquired another sports franchise or what, would he consider himself spread too thin?

Just all speculation, I don’t think anyone but Tillman or those closest to him could say. Honestly, if he didn’t have the connection to our university and to the city of Houston like he does, I wouldn’t likely put this much thought into it.

Fair enough but every $B’s will tell you the key to success is to learn how delegate effectively. Tilman has been a master at it.

Obviously he’s delegating, no one needs to ask him about comping a meal that was undercooked but the big things, he’s involved. The number of Billionaires that delegate strategic moves, acquisitions and major business moves is probably near zero. He doesn’t just wake up to find out that he purchased a new steakhouse chain or several car dealerships or that the Rockets executed a monster trade.

Billionaires are very rarely impulsive.

I’ve seen some comments from Tilman that indicated he’s very involved in his businesses.

Bubba Gumps would be better.

That’s a separate Country, actually.

Also potential issues with the emoluments clause, but given the administration…

Did Tilman officially start this appointment or did they go with someone else?

yes he is the ambassador

No, he’s not.

I’d assume ambassadors require senate approval and are not as high a priority as cabinet positions and the like.

He has been named and he is waiting to be confirmed like others.

Chronicle today has him resigning from Landry’s to be Ambassador. I didn’t know how he could do both anyways, but still keeping the Rockets,

Hmmm…did not see or hear anything about being Chairman of UH BOR.
Guess he can remain in that role.

The article mentions he is resigning from UH BOR. Hope he will still keep supporting our Coogs.

Yep, that’s going to leave a big hole.

Yes, you’re right; thanks !
