I know its still early in his career, but just for fun, where would you rank Kingston Flemings as a UH guard? To make it simple, I will include PG and SG as the same. Just from memory, here are some candidates:
Don Chaney
Louis Dunbar
Poo Welch
Otis Birdsong
Rob Williams
Reid Gettys
Anthony Goldwire
Rob McIver
Aubrey Coleman
Damyean Dotson
Rob Gray
Cory Davis Jr.
Armoni Brooks
Quentin Grimes
DeJon Jarreau
Marcus Sasser
Jamal Shead
Emanuel Sharp
In evaluating rankings, I think it is fair to consider the number of years the player contributed to the program.
You are WAY under selling Otis Birdsong for one for sure. He only played in SWC for 2 years and was the SWC player of the decade as well as All American and #2 draft pick. He didn’t have 3 point line and shot clock or his numbers would have been even higher.
Yes, I agree. There are lots more. LJ Cryer, Derrick Daniels, Lanny Smith, Dominic Smith, Oliver Lafayette, Ken Ciolli, Cecil Rose, Eddie Cumbo, and on and on.
Unfortunately for us, we’re going to be looking at Kingston’s all-time UH legacy (and other players) through the lens of a single season. I’m not sure this era gives us another Emanuel Sharp to break the 3-point record, for example.
Kingston would be up there with Otis if he stayed
He probably goes but this year is really heavy in top recruits and guards for the nba
He would be a top ten pick but not number one
The difference is 5M vs 14M
He’s gonna make more than 1M and get NIL and endorsements if he stays for sure
He has the potential to be a number one pick with one more year under Sampson
That’s a career boost that’s worth delaying entry
IMO. It stays with you forever and places you in a rare elite level
Has anyone even mentioned Alvin Franklin?
He was the starting point guard as a freshman on the best Coog team ever.
Not a great shooter but one of the best we have ever had going to the rack and good on defense.
I saw Franklin play at Clear Lake his Senior year of High school and watched him drop 60 on them. Dude could flat fill it up quick in high school. He was an amazing guard in the paint. In the 84 Final four against Georgetown he was floating them over Ewing no problem. Problem was we had no answer for them down low.
