Gov. Ann Richards (a Baylor graduate) is frequently cited alongside Bullock for political pressure favoring Baylor, and sources note the pairâs influence as common knowledge for getting Baylor in. However, detailed accounts (including Wikipediaâs history of the Big 12) indicate Richards is often mistakenly credited for active involvement; she was absent from the key February 1994 meeting Bullock led, and
reports do not confirm her direct role in the same way. en.wikipedis.org
Good info. Forgot about him. Do vaguely remember
Abbott and Patrick through Tillman helped us in B12
What she did with the UH and the big12 was DICTATED by uta. utaâs plans all along was to eliminate any recruiting threats coming the greater Houston and greater DFW areas, hence UH, TCU and SMU out of the BIG12.
What she did/did not do after Mrs. Barnett passed away will live forever in infamy. Naming Pickering was a well thought decision to harm U of H. I have no doubts about it.
Itâs UT.
NOT UTA
UTA is UT-Arlington
Oh Ryon. Donât you realize that we write uta for horns because it is a dig at their fanbase? They hate that, so we do it to p*ss them off. Small case uta is ut at austinâŠthey hate that. Everyone knows that UTA is UT at Arlington.
No one here refers to UT as UTA except him.
Heâs been corrected on that before, but it doesnât seem to sink in.
Hmm. All these years my anger was misdirected. So itâs Bullock that I have my beef with.
LOL, of course he knowsâŠlike he knows his freshman mandate is a pipe dream.
Itâs ut, as in uti
It would have happened if not for you know who.
Wait until he is dead.
Incodentally, your calling UT âUTAâ is about as dumb as the Aggies calling them âTU.â
Do you really think I care what comes out of your keyboard?
Obviously you do, otherwise you wouldnât take the time to respond.
A little known fact is that, due to the post - Reconstruction constitution rewrite, the Texas governor has limited power beyond the veto. Itâs amusing when people get wrapped around the axle about a governors public position when all he / she really has is a bully pulpit.
Real power in the state is split between the Lt Governor, Speaker of the House, and the Comptroller (Bullock). Wouldnât surprise me if Richards had a hand in it, but she probably wasnât the lead dog.
As the stateâs top two executive officers, both had a fiduciary duty to look out for the executive branch agencies that fell under them, INCLUDING UH (which is indeed a Texas executive branch agency, as a state U).
They breached that duty (especially Bullock, but arguably Richards as well for saying nothing to the contrary) by promoting the interests of Bullockâs private CHURCH SCHOOL alma mater, Baylor, over that of our university, to which they owed said duty by forcing Baylor into the Big 12 and leaving us out.
Unforgivable.
Good thing that in the latest round of realignment, the top two in the Executive Branch in Texas, UNLIKE BACK THEN, had our back.
It is documented by a post that Coog51 had a few years back. That post is a word for word recollection of the then Kansas President. This is not a âfabricatedâ hyperbole from coogfans. uta on purpose imploded the SWC. When a merger between the SWC and BIG8 was on the table uta highjacked the negotiations andâŠkicked out the SWC commissioner. This is the types of stuff you see in movies. Then uta dictated to the BIG8 which teams/schools they wanted with the future new conference. The BIG8 had to accept all utaâs demands otherwise a merger would not happen. This how UH, TCU and SMU got left out. It had everything to do with recruiting. At the same time there were noises that uta was threatening the BIG8 to move to the PAC.
Remember friends when uta and espn attempted to kill the BIG12 there was not another Texas schoolâŠFacts are facts and thank you to Bowlesby for recognizing the power play that uta had designed. Richards a long time ally of uta gladly went along and yes she choose Pickering or at least did not put a veto for him being our new UH President. If Richards or her Attny Gen had our back after Mrs. Barnett passed away she would have made sure we got the right President we needed at the time. The exact opposite happened. That is no coincidence.
Sort of.
The networks and UT/aTm wanted to leave everyone out except those two.
Bullock forced them to take Tech and Baylor as well and leave the others out.
I donât mind Bullock forcing Tech in, after all, they are another state U and another executive branch agency to which he, as a high ranking executive, owed a fiduciary duty.
But forcing Baylor in over UH, another state U an exec branch agency to which they likewise owed a fiduciary duty, is a BREACH of fiduciary dutyâŠand UNforgivable.
What SHOULD have happened is this:
Bullock SHOULD have done exactly what he did, EXCEPT pushed for Tech and UH rather than Tech and Baylor, because that was his DUTY.
He owed NO duty to the private schools (Rice, TCU, Baylor, or SMU), and ESPECIALLY NOT to the threeâŠCHURCH schools.
Advancing a Churchâs schoolâs (Baylorâs) interests over UHâs seems almost like a violation of the separation of church and state to me. Or if nothing else, prioritizing church over state.
Just my two cents.
I will listen to what a BIG8 President said on record vs anything coming out of your keyboard.
uta is 100% responsible for this just like they did when they bolted for the sec.
And Iâll listen to what literally BOOKS have been written about and quoted multiple times on this board that 100% support what I wrote, and what others likewise quoted here.
WELL documented.
What the guy you quoted said might explain why a merger didnât happen.
But it does NOT explain why Baylor got in and we didnât.
Thatâs ALL about Bob Bullock. Make no mistake about that.
SoâŠ
âŠabout the defensive struggles.
Itâll be interesting to see what changes are made for the UCF Game.
Whatever changes ARE made, I just hope they donât sacrifice the Coogâs ability to stop the opponentâs run game.
A Kansas President, member of the BIG8 attending meetings, phone calls vs so called reports?
Exactly, the Kansas President has me believing what he recollects.
