No one says that UT (not UTA, again, you sound dumb for saying it wrong, just like the Aggies do when they say “TU” and think they are being cute) wasn’t the driving force behind breaking up the conference, and preventing a full on merger with the Big 8.
But they WERE NOT the driving force behind UH being later left out in favor of a dang Church school (Baylor).
That was 100% Bob Bullock, who had no loyalty to UT or aTm. He had loyalty to his CHURCH SCHOOL alma mater, and he used his power to threaten and force UT and aTm to bring that dang Church school along with them, completely disregarding his fiduciary duty to UH, which was an executive branch agency to which he owed an obligation.
Everybody here knows that EXCEPT you, apparently.
Not sure why that seems so hard for you to accept, because it’s a well-documented FACT that literally BOOKS have been written about (and quoted here, even on this string).
By the time Baylor got forced in, the “merger” ship had sailed.
At that point, the networks were cool with taking only UT and aTm. Only Bullock’s threats against those two schools forced Baylor and Tech in as well.
Where he screwed up is that he should have made the very same threats against UT and aTm, except on behalf of Tech and UH…NOT Tech and Baylor.
Picking Church (Baylor) over State (Houston) was the ultimate UNFORGIVABLE crime as a leader in the Exec. Branch, one for which Bullock will always be damned in my mind.
Again, I’m glad that the NEXT time around, our executive branch leaders (Abbott and Patrick), got it right.
