Future Realignment Thread

I just don’t see that happening.

There are currently programs within the current P2 that shouldn’t even be in this supposed “power league”.

They would just take the best teams of the B1G/SEC and put them in the same conference if a super league was truly the goal.

Not enough schools to control the map.

Same logic between the MLB adding a team in Houston Texas in thr 1960s. Houston neither had the brand or the fans YET but the MLB expanding into those strategic markets would rise the brand of the MLB.

If you leave too many “almost P2s” out, their fans will reject the P2.

Doesn’t matter.

What matters is TV viewership, and all those big time brands from USC (west) to Michigan (centeral) to Texas (south) to Florida State (east) will draw revenue at a profit.

Having schools like Arizona State would just dilute the revenue payout to the other schools. I don’t even think Clemson would be worth making the cut.

Essentially, you’re talking about a conference that would look like this.

  1. Texas
  2. Florida
  3. Georgia
  4. Tennessee
  5. Alabama
  6. LSU
  7. Ole Miss
  8. Texas A&M
  9. Ohio State
  10. Nebraska
  11. Wisconsin
  12. Penn State
  13. Michigan
  14. USC
  15. UCLA
  16. UNC
  17. Notre Dame
  18. Kansas (the only Big 12 school that I think makes the cut. If not, swap with Kentucky)

It would only dilute payouts to add other non-major revenue schools

Well…if that happens, i will have no interest in watching college football

Shoot. I forgot Florida State. They would make the cut, but you get the idea.

Yeah you wouldn’t watch football because you didn’t make the cut. However, the alumni of those schools as well as all the t-shirt fans around the country probably would.

In any case, I highly doubt that any super league or “breakaway” will actually happen. I just don’t see it.

If Yormark plays his cards right, I think there is a higher chance that the Big 12 lands FSU and Clemson instead of that type of breakaway taking place.

See, I think overtime, viewership will wane because they left out these other programs.

how so?

That’s the whole point of only having these schools in the same conference because they’re such huge brands that they will generate profit no by themselves.

If Arizona State and UofH fans aren’t tuning into this proposed super league, it really doesn’t matter.

Even in Houston alone, Texas and Texas A&M dominate the market anyway.

I won’t watch and I know plenty of these other fans in these markets won’t either.

I don’t buy that.

Except for the Mountain States, the P2 already controls the map.

Moreover, they don’t need to control the map any more than they do now. They already have nearly all the biggest brands and most of the media money.

At most, a P2 breakaway would add ND and 3-4 of the highest ACC brands.

It might even jettison a few brands.

48?

No way.

They’d have to add too many parasites.

Because there are so many USFL/XFL t-shirt fans that it is like printing money…

There’s a difference.

College Teams already have historical momentum.

So why are stadiums emptying and young fan support is so hard to find for so many programs?

Now, compound that with your school being left behind and let’s see how the CFB minor league does.

I doubt the majority of schools that I listed above are having trouble filling stadiums

But you only listed 18 schools. UNC and UCLA have a hard time selling out.

Are you going to watch the games between those schools?

Under a P2 format, I am not.

RUBBISH!!! BIG members already angry about having too many members…they arent adding 6 more…same applies to SEC…SEC GOT who they wanted …Dont see them adding schools…There isnt going to be any 48 school P2…it wont happen…

No probably not but again I highly doubt a breakaway actually happens

Viewership would dwindle. Countless times I said the ncaa isn’t the nfl which gets everyone involved. The college game is divisive and doesn’t bring as many crossover fans unless those fans feel their team is relevant in that league. The whole city can generally get behind the Texans and even some around the state like Dallas which captures their city and some fans around the state. The whole state or city won’t cheer for UT the same way bc some are Coogs, Aggies , tigers or green wave etc and too much hatred is there to crossover especially if your team is left out. Fans will simply migrate to nfl teams to cheer for if their team is left out.

Exactly…after UH got left out of the Big 12, I never watched Big 12 games.

I still have never watched a second of the 2005 NC game. No way i was going to watch that.

If the P2 alienates 2/3 of college football, it will be a huge mistake which is why i think 48 schools makes everyone happy.

If you’re not included, it is obvious why
