G5 cfp?

Grass is green, the sky is blue, and the G5 schools need their own playoff.

No! Think eyeballs.

Be careful what you wish for, because it might be a G8 playoffs one day.

There has been a ton of hate out there that Tulane and JMU got in the playoffs. Personally I don’t get it. G5 is either getting the crumb of 1 and maybe 2 teams out of a 10+ playoff.

No, technically they are no g5’s. All of these schools are DIV I FBS. The g5’s was invented by espn.
You create a g5 playoff? Then you can be sure we will have a playoff for the big and sec and one for the BIG12 and acc…if these two conferences survive. By having five sec teams, three big10 teams and one for the BIG12 and acc we can clearly see where this is going.

I agree in theory. They should have their own playoff, and it would solve a lot of the issues with the P4 CFP.

That being said, the overhead costs to have a G5 CFP won’t be profitable. Costs will exceed revenue, therefore, will never happen.

There are maybe 5 G5 schools that could potentially draw an audience on national TV

Thanks for posting this. You’re 1000% correct.

All FBS teams have the exact same requirements and should have access to a National Championship opportunity.

It’s so funny to me how so many Coogfans want to pimp other people’s agendas, no matter how unprincipled those agendas are. And do so against the obvious interest of UH.

ESPN/Fox seem to collude with the SEC and Big10 to pimp garbage like “separation” and Coogfans go right along…

If the Big 12 wants to survive in the long term, it has to absorb what remains of the ACC once the ACC falls

and it will

Coastal conferences are no longer sustainable

That’s an interesting statement. Why do you say ESPN created the Power / Group division in college football. I’ve always traced it back to 1990s when the BCS initiated the “Automatic Qualifier” (AQ) conferences for BCS bowls. AQ conferences were nicknamed the “Power Conferences” (Power 6 at the time). When the Big East became the American Athletic Conference and lost its AQ status, it lost “Power” status. When the PAC-12 lost autonomy status, it lost “Power” status. You can blame a lot of things on ESPN, but I’m not sure this is one of them.

I think it could be coming…because they might be excluded from P4 playoff. Change is definitely coming…

If I was ESPN I would want a G5 cfp, also I would have a page/channel dedicated to G5 teams. You know how starved we were for stories when we were in the AAC.
There are a lot more G5 schools than P4 schools. I believe its an underserved market.

Funny how not too long ago we were raising cane about not being included as a G5

You have to look at who had the TV contract for those playoff games. ESPN. Same as today.

Who created the bcs?
Again keep in mind that the ncaa does not recognize the bcs and cfp National titles…
espn has been at the core of realignment, bcs and cfp.
Interestingly enough they also control most bowls.
In a real college football landscape you would have 10 FBS DIV I Champion qualify for the crp regardless of the conference they are in. Have you noticed that the ncaa has not “requalified” the FBS DIV I status of non power conferences? Why is that?
What is most troubling with the bcs and cfp is that it does not recognize sports merits. There is no way in any system that a three loss team could qualify to the cfp when you have teams like BYU and Utah with two losses.
By the ncaa not sanctioning the cfp National championship it allows the cfp and espn to choose who the f…k they want. That in itself should never be allowed.
Bama does not agree with this? Move to another conference. Personally the SWC including Arkansas and the old BIG8 should be our conference. It make sense from what college football is all about. The same can be said with the old PAC12 with the old WAC.
It makes no sense whatsoever for atm to have a rivalry with florida or bama, none.
espn wants two conferences. That is a given. They want to force feed us the narrative that only 100k stadiums/teams should play against each other. That goes against every principle of what college football was based on.

They need to have their own playoff. They have no business in this playoff, and the results on the field will prove that out. (Ole Miss already played Tulane this season anmd won 45-10). All the good G6 players are transferring to P5 schools so it’s already the minor leagues. The day we have a 32 team playoff, sure, let them in. It’s asinine that the American and the SUN BELT have the same amount of teams as the Big 12 and ACC in the playoffs.

Why should espn dictate this outcome?
That is the fundamental question.
The ncaa is supposed to have the “authority”
But who is behind the ncaa?
The same schools that want two conferences to dominate college football.
The ncaa is at the core of this scam. They had a choice to sanction the bcs and cfp. They did not because they knewcby doing so it would break their own ncaa rules.

What makes you so sure the BIG12 will survive the next round of realignment?
You do remember that espn’s goal was to kill the BIG12. That is why uta bolted to the sec. uta prints money. But with no Texas teams in a power conference except them and atm this would have been a game changing decision in favor of both.

Because the Big 12 has stability, and the ACC does not.

The ACC’s contracts are all screwed up

  • different teams have different rules
  • schools in illogical locations
  • numerous lawsuits
  • too many parasites not worth the money
  • has 3-4 teams that could potentially fit for P2 expansion
  • their only TV partner is ESPN, so no negotiation leverage

No they don’t. I can’t believe people actually fret about this.

I can’t stand this idea. For all the talk about participation trophies and whatnot… a G5 Playoff - a glorified consolation competition - is not the answer.
