I have argued Gray should be in Sampson’s all-time UH starting five many times, only to be met with much opposition. It pleases me to no end YOU, of all respected basketball posters, has a soft spot for him as well.
But Jessie Drain would be an underrated selection for me as well.
Mills could be in that group.
On this team I think we have a triple headed monster to close out games…LJ, Sharp and Arc. And don’t sleep on Uzan as the season progresses.
Our problem is we do not have a go to big man. I was hoping McFarland could have been that guy later in the season
That’s a good list, mainly because they all proved themselves by making game winning shots.
So far, no one on the team has proved themselves capable, partly because we haven’t been in that situation.
The few potential opportunities we had this season (Alabama, Auburn, SDSU) we either fumbled at the end or couldn’t get close enough to get a last second shot. We don’t have a killer instinct yet, and scary thought is, maybe it’s not there on this team.
Thats fair. Maybe I shouldn’t have said “way better”. I wasnt necessarily trying to emphasize the degree to which Sharp was better, just that its a clear line IMO. It could very well be by a small margin. I shouldn’t have said it how I did.
I certainly don’t think Cryer is a bum or shouldnt be starting or anything like that.
It was messing with my brain hearing Matt calling a basketball game referencing the Rockets and it not being the Houston team on the floor but instead the Toledo Rockets.
No, it was him calling the other team the Rockets as they are. Ryan Hollins asked him to call them Toledo bc it was confusing him n MT said nope their the Rockets.
At his size with his game you would ideally like to see more ability to create for others off the bounce and be more of a PG, and you would want some elite athleticism to go along with it.
If he was shooting more like 45% from behind the arc, then he’d be a better position. The 3 point line being back will always be factored in, but i think my first paragraph is more important.
Also being in college so long tends to work against everyone, especially small guards. The NBA likes to draft 2nd round guards young w/ standout measurables, unique traits, and raw potential they can develop. They can find a Cryer without burning a pick with a simple phone call and a 10 day or 2-way offer any time they want. (Same goes for Jones)
FWIW, Curtis Jones isnt getting drafted either. He’s also not a real PG or an NBA athlete. Just my humble amateur opinion.
