Game 3: Oakland ESPN+ 7pm 11/12

I didn’t spend a ton of time, but I looked into how many times in college basketball history has a team played a #1 ranked team, and then another #1 ranked team in back to back games.

Oakland played #1 Purdue on Saturday, and are playing #1 Houston tomorrow night in consecutive games.

From what I can tell, it has never happened before.

That’s why Purdue fell a spot… Michigan beat the brakes off Oakland last Monday then Purdue struggled with them…

Not sure what to expect except a Coog W!

Billy Tubbs coaching OK, IIRC

I didn’t realize Purdue has been without Kaufman-Renn their first 2 games…

Looks like Oakland was killing the zone from 3 in the first half…

Be interesting if someone asked the Oakland coach postgame tomorrow which team he thinks is better, UH or Purdue.

At this point he’d probably say Michigan…

Damn! UM scored 69 in the first half against Oakland!

Glad Oakland kept the game competitive against Purdue and got UH’s attention. These are the type of games that can be overlooked by the players and can result in an upset.

Just like the previous two games Sampson will continue to run guys in and out. Comparing scores in these early games is silly as are the polls this early

He won’t run guys in & out if we’re tied at half…

Maybe not in the second half. In reality we have only have two really good players coming off the bench right now until Harwell returns and hopefully McFarland.
Hoping Mercy gets more minutes and shows some improvement

Mercy looked good in his minutes imo…

I feel like we might’ve gotten a “lemon” in Sakho…

doesn’t help that the “half the roster gets hamstrung with nagging injuries” thing isn’t even waiting until march this year :grimacing:

Yeah maybe Saeko simply needs to heal but he looks lost, totally lost.’
Mercy played hard but still needs to up his defense to Sampson levels.
I have high hopes for him because he can be an electric scorer off the bench.

I’ll bet he ends up surprising us at some point this season

after last week wouldn’t it he a little concerning if buy games having unexpectedly close games is what it took for the team to focus lmao

At some point, people are going to stop writing off our transfers after the first couple of games. Apparently not this year, though.

We’ll revisit this smug retort in a month… I don’t think Sakho is it due to injury and lack of basketball IQ coupled with only having this year to learn the system.

I’m putting more stock in Lath improving than Sakho at this point…
