Game 3: Oakland ESPN+ 7pm 11/12

Not smug - people did the same thing with Uzan last year. Just facts, man.

I have no idea what Sahko will end up doing, but he’s beaten out Lath so far.

I assume they will, and he’ll give a politically-correct non-answer. “You know, they’re both really good, lot of talent on both these teams, but I’m proud of the way our guys stepped up to the challenge” etc etc

A quick reminder that we started the season 4-3 last year. A lot of people freaked out when our starting PG didn’t show out from the get go, despite coming back from an injury (broken nose).

To that point, guys like Harwell, Sakho, McFarland, and even Tugler to a certain degree, are still working their way back from injuries. We have no idea how good they can be. Maybe they turn out great, maybe they don’t, but it’s too early to judge.

Has he…?

The minutes say he has, but neither one of them has contributed much of anything.

Sahko has definitely been limited by injury at least as much as he’s been limited by not knowing what to do on the floor.

The problem is that there’s such a huge drop-off from that position last year, and I don’t expect him to ever reach Francis’ level. But he seems to have the skills to be quite a bit better than Lath this year.

I said before the year started that if he was playing more than McFarland, then something went wrong. McFarland’s reinjury was that something.

I think he has the athleticism to be better than Lath when fully healthy…

I have more faith in Lath knowing the defense and he SHOULD be able to get some offensive boards and putbacks…

At the end of the day I think we see a lot of Jojo & Cenac together and then small ball + 1 or the other this season… :grimacing:

Even though we have a ton of talent CKS has his work cut out for him this year…

But I have faith!

Damn, the Oakland coach has been HC for 42 years at that school. I remember when they beat Kentucky in NCAAT in 2024.

They’ve had 5 coaches since they started playing in 1967, and they were D2 when the current guy started.

They’ve been in almost as many conferences as they’ve had head coaches.

Give Sahko more time before you evaluate. Posters were essentially saying the same thing about Uzan at this point last year. Uzan was playing at Oklahoma before UH; Sahko was playing at Sam Houston St. He needs time to adjust to Sampson’s system and the quality of opponents. Since his playing time is limited, it will take him longer. If McFarland is able to play, that will also cut into Sahko’s minutes.

At this point, Sahko is like an insurance policy. You have him, but you hope you don’t need him.

So you think Uzan is his comparable?

Agree on giving Sahko more time and benefit of the doubt. He has played a lot of college ball… and has experience. I think before Sam Houston - he was at Utah State (maybe - I’m not sure). If it was Utah State - that is a respectable basketball program the last several years.

Sahko isn’t a redshirt freshman.

Sakho’s biggest problem is his back injury that won’t heal and limits his movement and aggressiveness

Sakho literally has this year and this year only… you’re talking about Francis who developed at UH over 5 years to the player you saw last year.

Sounds like a lemon…

I’m not trying to be insensitive here… just saying we went out and got an injured player… a player that is supposed to have a fairly large bench role.

Hopefully, him or McFarland can get healthy for the 2nd half of the season.

I thought Francis was great his last two years.
