Game 7: Houston at Navy - Oct 22nd, 2022 (W 38-20)

Navy +3. I have no idea how this team is going to play anymore. Hopefully, more than half a quarter of good football in this one.

I thought this was going to be a walk in the park before the season. Now, I’m not so sure. This is going to be a tough game.

I’m always nervous playing Navy because of the chop blocks and the triple option. Its just hard to prepare for something you rarely see in todays college football.

Well 4 teams have already managed it this year……Memphis only gave up 13 points to them while winning by 24.
And Delaware beat them 14-7……I’d be willing to bet there might be film from that floating around out there……plus they had an extra week to prepare.

But it’s always best to start pre-loading the excuses early.

My wife and I will be there, along with at least 3 other couples, UH faithful Coogs…
Went to Westpoint twice with our Coogs, this is a bucket list trip.
Can’t wait, just hope we win by 1……

Big key is our health. Having a bye before this game should be a boost.

NAVY will be the perfect game to see how much we worked on during this off week.
Navy has been dirty. How will we handle it especially at NAVY?
How will our DL handle their offense?

Just these two points are for me essential. I can’t wait until game time.

I’ve been to this one before to watch the coogs as well. We lost the game which stung a bit because it was already freezing and raining.

Annapolis is a great town. Great food and people all around there.

Enjoy! I think our guys will come away with a win and build some in conference momentum.

C’mon folks, practically ever recruit at Navy is below a 2 star. We should blow them out. If we don’t the question is why?

As I posted elsewhere, I don’t see how their far less athletic DBs can cover our receivers.

With chop blocking outlawed, their option won’t be as effective.

Against Kansas, we got burned on option QB keeps, but I doubt that Navy’s option QBs can compare.

I like our chances.

This weekend I saw a couple NFL teams run plays that were rollouts, then a pitch to the RB. Both times failed miserably. So much D speed in the NFL that the plays got strung out and snuffed before the RB could turn upfield.

Put some speed out on the edges and we can do the same to Navy.

#6 is going to be a key player.

I’ve been to a game at West Point-incredible trip. Never been to Annapolis. Given my age and condition I probably never will. Proud of time I spent in the USNR. Still I wish I could be with Ken Barrett and his gang of Coogs and all the other Coogs to see us sink the Navy.

I’ve visited West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy; have seen games at the latter.

I rank the campuses in that order.

Never been to the Coast Guard or Merchant Marine Academies.

Option offenses wreak havoc on undiscipled and/or over-pursuing defenses. Ours has shown flashes of both, but hopful the two weeks to prepare will help.

Also, if Mutin can run free, he might set a record for tackles in a game.

Ponies were up by 20 with seven minutes to go. The Navy QB seemed like a pretty awful passer but runs the offense well. They ran over 100 plays against SMU.

This is always Derek’s favorite team to play aside from the sketchy blocking Navy does. It’s the only time with the triple option, that runners come to the edge or the LBs and the line is able to capitalize on a lot of tackles. Last year Derek had 12 against Navy. Our DL should hopefully, blow them up. I can see Owens and Mutin having big stats too.
