GAME THREAD: Houston vs. SFA | FINAL 27-0

He was only targeted once, if I recall correctly. This is supposed to be a big year for him.

Whatever happened to all the speedy WRs we used to have?

Doesn’t look like Fritz is focusing on recruiting downfield threats.

They all want to be quarterbacks

Given how much rules have changed to keep QB’s safe, this has had a downstream affect into college and high school

Look at NFL QBs today , they’re all dual threat and fast

We have some in the 2026 class, but they were up in the stands watching the game.

Agreed. It’s only going to get tougher. Too many runs up the middle for no gain or negative gain. Not good getting pushed around by the Jacks!

yeah - oline is a real concern - 2 tries to gain 1 yard - and could not do it and end up turning the ball over on downs. we are going to have a significant problem against big 12 d-lines. better start practicing screen passes and delayed draws.

Same old grandpa Fritz, recruiting o-linemen like he is still at Tulane.

I mean we did have a 15 yard punt; let’s not let the punter off the hook quite that easily.

lmaoooo

Also, listening to CW speak post-game doesn’t exactly exude confidence. I’m trying my best not to overreact! Ha

#1 made the oline look better than they were by stepping up in the pocket and making throws. Thought he was outstanding.

#39 for SFA was a speed rusher and he had fun going against both tackles. Ran by them regularly. The oline was suspect coming in and it remains suspect. Rice will not show us much either. Not sure what Colorado brings but Tech is flat loaded on the Dline and that game will tells us everything we need to know.

Defensively, we sat on the flat routes with impunity. I doubt Big12 teams will let that happen. It seems we are loaded at DB, there were so many getting PT. Not sure how our pass rush will be. Didn’t see a lot of flash, just inside push. Overall, there was little to be dissatisfied about with pitching a shutout against a well coached SFA team.

I thought we would use #4 in multiple ways but only an ineffective jet sweep a couple of times. #44 is a nice addition to the backfield.

#9 was as advertised. Good hands on a big body. Glad he’s not badly hurt.

Sanford sat at our table last Thursday (8/21) at the “Let’s Talk Football Event” and seemed to be fine. Does anybody know what happened to cause season ending knee injury?

Rewatching our line
seems like when they got pressure in the backfield it was more due to LBs or FS up in the box and overloading one side or the other rather than individual losses at the line.

SFA ran a good defensive scheme in my opinion.

We were playing a lot of 3rd and long due to mistakes (penalties and missed blocking assignments.

SFA looked well coached.

Yeah
the stunts, or twists, didn’t seem to be picked up well at all

Speedy WRs are not going to play for an offense that doesn’t use them. Same with QB. Don’t expect to see a UH QB with an arm like Klingler or Keenum on a Willie Fritz team. It’s just not in the cards for his type of offense.
